So, Brooks Laich getting a dump truck full of money officially makes it silly season in the NHL. Let's track the rumors, innuendo (sexual and non), signings, etc here. It will be another Cup-less Canada Day holiday on Friday for those folks north of the border. Suck it.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Bruins take a run at Fleischman if he's reasonably priced. They've flirted with him in the past, so it's not out of the realm of possibility. He also had great chemistry on Krejci's wing during the Olympics.

I've also heard speculation the Bruins may kick the tires on the very solid, Jan Hejda. Not sure I buy either though, as the Bruins have zero pressure to do anything.

Word is he "should" be healthy enough to play by the start of next year, but I don't know if Chiarelli's going to want to take a chance on a guy with a pulmonary embolism. In fact, this blog post by Adrian Dater insinuates that the Avs medical staff may not be clearing Fleischmann in order to keep his price down.

Fleischmann, Vrbata or Kennedy would be good 3rd line pickups, I would love Gagne here but would pause at any term over 3 years.

I really like the idea of Ville Leino. He's solid two ways and he's only 27. Marshmont-Bergeron-Leino would be a stud defensive line that still has a fantastic ability to put the puck in the net.

Dupuis was going to be the UFA with the tenth highest goal total (17) in 10-11 if he hadn't resigned. I don't think that says much about the UFA class available.

This is the guy I really want. Young, isn't afraid to hit someone or block shots and is a seriously dangerous PP player from what I saw of him in Montreal.

I just can't get at all excited about a 3 year deal for Kaberle, no matter how cheap it might be. I doubt he would settle for less than 3 years.

I had to look up pulmonary embolism. Ouch, that sounds like it sucks. Damage can sometimes be permanent.

Well then.

Let me just say how happy I am that RMPS is the way it is and not the way other places are. HF is a decent resource for prospect info but everything else is just garbage. The FA threads over there just degenerate into Toronto fans talking about how Stamkos or Richards or whoever is definitely going to become a Leaf.

NYR to buy out Drury's contract

According to the New York Post, the buyout of team captain Chris Drury’s contract “will become official today."

Drury won’t file a medical exception, reported The Post. The move, due to a degenerative knee condition, would have blocked the Rangers’ buyout.

He will instead become a free agent after the Rangers make the buyout official. New York will be on the hook for a $3.7 million cap hit next season and a $1.6 million hit in 2012-13.

Why the shakeup? The Rangers are expected to make a run at top free agent Brad Richards. The price tag will likely be steep — as will the cap space needed to sign him.

Drury was sidelined for two months after undergoing knee surgery in February.

“This is something, honestly, that we have to look at as far as where does (Drury) fit now,” Tortorella said after the team’s playoff ouster. “We are going young. With older guys, those are conversations that we have to have as we continue here for the next few months.”

Kyper is now saying the Predators QO's might not be valid, making their RFA's unsrestricted. The notable RFA is Weber, obviously, but they had filed for arbitration with him so I don't know if he'd get affected by this.

How would they not be valid? Similar to Tallon when he was in Chicago with Versteeg and Sharp?

A bunch of word that Ehrhoff told the Isle's to go fuck themselves. Ouch. a fourth rounder isn't that big of a deal, but still...

Typical Isles. A 4th isn't much, but they needed to be prepared to back the truck up for him. Or make the pick conditional, like all the other teams do when acquiring rights.
