Wow Jordan Henderson really is miserable.

Makes a mess of another touch and gets rightly carded

Another hand ball? Sure looked like it.

How many clubs is Kenny Miller currently playing for? I feel every year like he's on every team between 16 and 25 in the league pyramid. It's like how you'd have one guy be all-team QB playing sandlot football.

EDIT: If you tie a final of a cup game late in extra time, I think you've earned the right to celebrate with your shirt off.

Not sure how long you've rooted for Liverpool, but this is what we do in cup finals. Here are the last 6 wins (not counting Super Cups, Charity Shields, etc).

2001 League Cup: Beat Birmingham on penalties, Jamie Carragher (of all people) scores in the 6th round, Westerveld saves the next kick to win it.
2001 FA Cup: Trailed 1-0 until Michael Owen scored twice in the last 7 minutes to beat Arsenal 2-1.
2001 UEFA Cup: Beat Alaves 5-4 on an extra time Golden Goal. One of the most insane sporting events I've ever watched.
2003 League Cup: Beat Man U 2-0, Jerzy Dudek had an incredible game to hold a 1 goal lead, Owen scored to clinch it with 2 minutes left.
2005 Champions League: Down 3-0 at the half, score 3 times in 6 minutes, Dudek makes a miracle save in the 117th minute, win on penalties.
2006 FA Cup: Down 2-0 and 3-2, Gerrard scores on a 91st minute 35 yard volley to tie it, Reina makes miracle save deep in stoppage time, win on penalties.

I know compared to supporters of most teams I am incredibly spoiled, but just once I'd like to be able to breathe in the last half hour of a final.

Oh, I've cheered for them for a while so I'm aware nothing is ever easy (the 724 times we've hit woodwork this season being the most recent example).

Fortunately, I've not always had means to watch the matches. I've learned over the last decade that this lack of access may actually have been a blessing.

Heart stopper. I feel great seeing them hoist silverware, been too long. Feel for Anthony Gerrard a bit. Hopefully, they build on this and make a big push for the 4 spot on the table.

A few random thoughts...

- It's bizarre that after winning 4 domestic cups (and a couple Charity Shields) in Cardiff while Wembley was being rebuilt, Liverpool finally play at Wembley...against Cardiff.
- It says something about how gassed everyone must have been that the 5th kicks in the shootout were taken by Liverpool's right back and Cardiff's substitute center back.
- Couldn't help but notice that Suarez didn't take a penalty. I wonder how long it would have had to go for him to take one.
- Liverpool and Manchester United have now both won 15 domestic cups (7 FA/8 League for LFC, 11 FA/4 League for Man U).
- King Kenny has now won the league, the FA Cup, and the League Cup as both a player and a manager. He joins Sir Rednose and Mourinho as the only managers to win the Premier League and both domestic cups (I can't believe Wenger hasn't won the League Cup).
- Liverpool are now 11-2 in shootouts in their history. Cardiff had been 5-0 until today.
- I think Charlie Adam's penalty is about to land right.........now.
- Regardless of what happens the rest of the season, the Reds will be back in Europe next season.

The best part of that picture is how it shows the "Carling" branding on the medal's ribbon is just stickers that apparently come off very easily. Good to see that the Football League spared no expense.

Do you think Bellamy's former allegiance pushed him out of the top 5 penalty takers? Very surprised he wasn't one of the first ones seeing as he was a sub.

I was also waiting to see how long it took for Suarez to take one, but he did look gassed.

Yeah, I was a bit surprised that Bellamy wasn't one of the first couple. I could see not wanting to put him in the position to take a win-or-lose one, but it was strange that he was skipped entirely.

Suarez is 0 for 2 this season, and both penalties were horrible (shot one way over the bar and scuffed the other one so bad I could have saved it).

One of them would have had to be 6th, unless you wanted Carragher, Skrtel, Enrique, or Reina shooting. Carra did shoot one in the 2001 final, but I can't see him being chosen over 2 strikers. Then again, Kenny sent our 2 regular takers out 1-2, and they both missed (although Gerrard's was a good penalty, just a great save).

A couple of 'morning after the night before' thoughts...

- the penalty save by Heaton off Gerrard in the shootout is one of the best saves I've ever seen. It deserves recognition in itself, outside of the whole game.
- the miss by Kenny Miller right at the end of normal time. See who raced across the penalty area to dive in with a last-ditch tackle to put him off? Andy Carroll.
- because the ticket allocation for the League Cup is more fan-based than corportate you get a much better atmosphere. Great stuff by Cardiff & LFC fans yesterday.
- as SFIC mentioned earlier, I believe it's a physical impossibility for LFC to play in an ordinary cup-final. In fact, the dreadful game against ManU in 1996 is the last final that was poor.
- 39 shots by LFC. 39? 19 on target. Mental. Our next shirt sponsor should be Cuprinol for the number of times we've hit the woodwork this season

I know New Wembley gets a lot of criticism, but one nice aspect is how it holds in sound. I couldn't think of a louder version of "Fields of Anfield Road" than the one right after kickoff.

Here's 15+ minutes of the celebrations. There's a rather surreal shot about 4 minutes in of Anthony Gerrard, with his hands on his hips, watching the traveling Kop sing You'll Never Walk Alone. The guy is a lifelong Liverpool fan, watching the team and their fans celebrate because he missed a penalty. I can't imagine what he is feeling there.

Not that I can really complain about the penalty, since there shouldn't have been one anyway.
