It was an aberration.

What you thought were signs of life, what you thought was the Bruins showing themselves as true contenders to the cup..was nothing more than the last gasp of air, the desperate attempt at trying to save themselves from decades of mediocrity and disappointment.

These Bruins were not waving, but drowning.

Again, these Bruins will break your hearts. They've set you up for the ultimate choke.

This is going to be like the Red Sox and Cardinals in 2004. With the Bruins playing the role of the Cardinals. They are but a speed bump en-route to the destiny of a Vancouver Cup.

The Bruins will yet again show themselves as the pathetic, gutless chokers that they always have been..this time though, it will be in front of the whole world.

Someone in the last game-thread asked what the song was in the Jack Daniels Honey commercial. It's a cover version of Slim Harpo's "I'm A King Bee" by a band called the Stone Foxes (they do sound a lot like the Black Keys). I think its a good song for the B's personally.

Steve Levy is the only ESPN anchor who has picked the B's in each round, including the finals. Let's make Steve proud.

Steve Levy's from Boston and as such is a Bruins fan. I ran into him on the 4th of July a few years ago and had a nice conversation with him. He had a Bruins shirt on and explained that the anchors aren't really allowed to show personal biases on air, which makes sense.

Apparently, he participates in some hockey rec leagues in the area, including one with a former boss of mine. He also owns a restaurant around there with Barry Melrose, if I remember correctly. Pretty cool guy all in all. He also had the hottest woman hanging of his arm. Who knew that sportsanchors attracted near-10's.

Hahaha, holy shit. My dad just found an old (unused) bumper sticker:

"Somethin's Bruin With The Mariners"

The last time the Bruins were in the playoffs, they were here. That thing is going on my goddamn car.

I found these a few days ago after the B's won G5. I thought them to be galvanizing statements, and super cocky even by fanbase standards. I say we march into Vancouver and shock the world, why not? Come back to Boston up 2-0. We can fucking do this. It starts with Game 1, we must win that one first. We do this by our nameless forwards shoving pucks so far up Luongo's ass you can dribble him off the ice. Fuck these overconfident, disrespectful bastards. They forgot that this is OUR time. I cannot wait until Wed.......

"I hope the Lightning win the Eastern Final... so then i can see myCanucks win the Cup on home ice in 5 games... what a treat that willbe... if the zebras insist on making sure Boston wins... sadly i willhave to go to the airport to greet the Canucks and the Cup after theysweep the Bruins in 4."

"Regardless if it went 5,6 or 7 games, the best team in hockey were going to thefinals. The Sharks were easily the second best team in the NHL. Sobring on the Bruins and their no-talent forwards or the Bolts withtheir weak back end, the result is inevitable anyway. Nucks in 5."

It should be noted that JulE6 Bot approves of these quotes.

(Sorry I do not have a link to the source of these posts, I grabbed them real quick while getting ready for work, did not post them prior because I wanted to make sure we were in first...)

I think he might have been busting your chops about his upbringing based on this interview. He's from Merrick, Long Island, went to high school a half-mile away in Bellmore NY, and grew up going to Rangers games with his dad. He's been a minority owner (1%) in four different bars, and he and Melrose used to own the Adirondack Frostbite.

But hell, if he's wearing Bruins jerseys and billing himself as a native Bostonian, we'll gladly accept defectors.

It sounded like he only moved here in the last ten years or so, but yeah, if it means he's the only person at ESPN making correct picks and bringing some legitimate hockey knowledge to that network (disclaimer: I don't watch ESPN much, but when I do he doesn't seem like a total assclown), good for him.

And fuck the Rags. I'm on my way to NY right and will spit on MSG if I get the chance.

I can't put into words my excitement level about the Cup Finals. I'm planning to be on site if there's a Game Six. I don't want there to be a Game Six...Bs can take this in fewer than six games.

Shaking.

Just remembered that I have a staff meeting on Wednesday at 11 and then off for the rest of the day. Can you say day drinking for the Stanley Cup Finals all afternoon on the Sound then watching the game at the bar? Thursday will suck, but I will take it.

I can't recall a time I've been as depressed as when I realized today that I won't be able to afford a Stanley Cup Finals ticket.

Fuck you Ticketmaster, and fuck you bandwagoners Bill Simmons.

Seriously if anybody has a ticket to any of the games that they'd be willing to sell for $300 or less, in any area of the arena, let me know. Or $300 + Halo 3 ODST. Fuck me.

No matter. The Civic was washed inside and out today for a total of 4 hours. Not even Vancouver's best could beat the Armor All job I've got going.

Just let it be wednesday already and win the god damn game.

I'm leaving on a multiple day mission that takes me into the heart of Taliban country, but more importantly...that will have me missing the first game of the SCF.

I've sent an urgent open letter to Cam Neely. He knows people at NHL HQ. I'm hoping they can delay the game for a day or two to accommodate my needs.

NHL Network showing the Bs-Canucks game from February at 2 PM today and Game 7 of the ECF at noon on Tuesday.

Edit: Weird, my source was the on line guide, and just went to record on DVR and DirecTV listings don't have these games listed.

I'm going to game 3. The old man promised it to me as a grad gift but he's already kvetching at the price. Let me tell you, I am going. If I have to buy a solo ticket and sit by myself, I'm going to game 3. I'll find some friends. They'll still let me buy beer. And I don't have to worry about "embarrassing" the people I came with.

Still, I have a feeling he'll figure something out. The old man is too proud to let me go by myself.

Nice - I suppose there is still time to guilt my dad into buying me a ticket as a result of me being unable to roadtrip to Seattle (and be in the building for one of the first two games in Vancouver right now).

More likely, I'll be selling my Epiphone Les Paul :(

Nobody heard him, the dead man,
But still he lay moaning:
I was much further out than you thought
And not waving but drowning.

Poor chap, he always loved larking
And now he's dead
It must have been too cold for him his heart gave way,
They said.

Oh, no no no, it was too cold always
(Still the dead one lay moaning)
I was much too far out all my life
And not waving but drowning.

Dammit, I really wish I hadn't had work last night. Had I been able to make it to the garden for mid afternoon I would've camped out and avoided the depression of ticketmaster's inevitable impossibility. Waited for NBA finals tickets last year starting at about 1 AM and even being pretty close to the front (~200 back) the cutoff for tickets was well ahead of me. Couldn't justify camping out this time unless I was in the guaranteed bunch of crazies at the front.
