With a glut of starters in Pawtucket (Webster, de la Rosa, Wright, Doyle, and the recently-redeployed Aceves), and at least one (Ranaudo) or perhaps two (Workman) mid-season promotions from Portland in the offing, the club is moving the struggling Hernandez to the bullpen

 

In 5 starts this year: 1.65 WHIP, 4.56 ERA, 5.23 FIP, and a .287/.358/.435/.793 opp line. He hasn't lasted beyond 5 innings in any of his outings. It also fills a need, with Ryan Rowland-Smith (AAA), Will Latimer (AA) and Robby Scott (A+) the only three other LH relievers above low-A level.

 

Not sure if a guy who can work multiple innings will be used as a LOOGY, but his career splits sure favor it.
