With a glut of starters in Pawtucket (Webster, de la Rosa, Wright, Doyle, and the recently-redeployed Aceves), and at least one (Ranaudo) or perhaps two (Workman) mid-season promotions from Portland in the offing, the club is moving the struggling Hernandez to the bullpen

In 5 starts this year: 1.65 WHIP, 4.56 ERA, 5.23 FIP, and a .287/.358/.435/.793 opp line. He hasn't lasted beyond 5 innings in any of his outings. It also fills a need, with Ryan Rowland-Smith (AAA), Will Latimer (AA) and Robby Scott (A+) the only three other LH relievers above low-A level.

Not sure if a guy who can work multiple innings will be used as a LOOGY, but his career splits sure favor it.

vs RHH: 1003 PA, 1.44 WHIP, 4.54 FIP, 1.43 K/BB, 0.81 HR/9IP, 14.0 K%, 9.8 BB%, 10.6 SwK%, .258/.338/.388/.726 line

vs LHH:  266 PA, 1.17 WHIP, 3.00 FIP, 2.82 K/BB, 0.27 HR/9IP, 18.0 K%, 6.4 BB%, 14.7 SwK%, .239/.291/.305/.596 line

This year's limited sample looks similar:

vs RHH: 88 PA, 1.83 WHIP, 6.31 FIP, 1.44 K/BB, 2.00 HR/9IP, 14.8 K%, 10.2 BB%, 12.5 SwK%, .295/.375/.500/.875 line

vs LHH:  32 PA, 1.30 WHIP, 2.68 FIP, 2.50 K/BB, 0.00 HR/9IP, 15.6 K%, 6.3 BB%, 13.6 SwK%, .267/.313/.267/.580 line
