Pierce ripping the bench a new asshole. From the Herald and Globe, respectively:

"I've been a little disappointed in the second unit, because the starters come out and make a lead, and it evaporates really quickly when we start subbing and put the second unit in," Pierce said after yesterday's practice. "I was a little upset, because it was like deja vu. Even though you're up 20, you don't want to see that continually happen. I just wanted them to know that it's about competing, and I didn't feel that they were competing on the high level you need to compete in the playoffs.

"It's not even about a defensive scheme or an offensive scheme. It's about competing a little more. That's what I was most upset about."

"I think they're thinking too much,'' Paul Pierce said of the second unit. "Instead of going out there, playing with reckless abandon and playing scrappy, they're trying not to mess up. I think if they just play hard and play defense, rebound the ball, be a unit that gives us energy, they'll be fine. But when they get to thinking about where to be offensively and defensively, they get really hesitant and passive and that's not a recipe for success.''

That's actually a really good summation of what's going on out there for the bench. Delonte is probably the biggest culprit, passing up wide open shots and forcing bad passes into the post. He's trying to manage the game, when he really should be taking charge along with Green who has been the only useful bench player thus far. Everything is too tentative. Give the ball to Green down low and let him go to work or kick it out for open jumpers. Keep it simple and they'll do a much better job.

I'm interested to see what kind of performance the Knicks have in them. Are they going to come out on cylinders and fight to stay alive or are they going to lay down like dogs?

I would expect the fans to be about 65/35 Knicks fans to start and will end up about 65/35 Boston by the end of the game.

Also, a big "boo-urns" to this game and the Sox game starting at the same time.

We all thought that Ray Allen broke the record for threes made all-time back in February against the Lakers, but if you count both players' playoff careers, he's actually tied with Reggie Miller entering today's game at 2,880. Wonder if any announcers will mention it.

Agree with VG and Jackson---it's legit call because there's no play on the ball, but it's a pretty marginal playoff call.

Defensive 3 seconds after 2 seconds? WIll they reverse it? Haha

This has been a problem all season. The refs just call it by the old "illegal defense" rules

Any hard foul by the Celtics in this series, Breen loses his shit about the physical nature of it and questions whether or not its a flagrant.

Also, every graphic is about the Knicks, the pregame pieces, everything really.

Terrible job having what essentially amounts to a Knicks home announce team doing a national playoff game.

I'd rather have Billups coaching my team than D'Antoni. Not remotely sold that he's anything other than a JV Paul Westhead....fun system, but not one you can win with.

No kidding. Hopefully this isn't the way they'll call it all game. The refs tried taking over in last year's Finals too, and it totally sucked the life out of the games.
