PeteAbe reports news, credits WEEI and SoSH

LHP Daniel McGrath of Australia has signed with the Red Sox according to his team there, the Doncaster Dragons. ...

Doncaster put the news on Twitter. We saw it when WEEI.com picked it up and they had some details via the Sons of Sam Horn. The internet never sleeps.

I thought he never comes here?

He wouldn't have had to to give that credit. Bradford went out of his way to credit SoSH in his article, so Abraham only had to go to WEEI.com.

Not to say he didn't come here via the link Bradford offered. But he probably wouldn't admit that. ;)

Lardo confirmed Aviles was traded to Tampa today.

I can report that @adriangon28 (Adrian Gonzalez) and @MikeAviles3 are the actual guys.

Yeah, not true at all. Good job, Petey.

The brilliancy continues.

Ellsbury’s 364 total bases were the most in the majors and the most for a leadoff hitter since Bobby Bonds had 341 in 1973.

This doesn't even make sense. 364 total bases cannot be the most since a mark of 341 in 1973. And it's not even right that it's the most for a leadoff hitter since 1973. Ellsbury had 345 total bases hitting out of the leadoff spot and 19 total bases hitting elsewhere. A couple of minutes of research shows that in 1997, Garciaparra had all 365 of his total bases as a leadoff hitter.

Jason Varitek, a two-time World Series champion and the captain of the Red Sox from 1997-2011, will announce his retirement on Thursday in Fort Myers sources told the Globe today.

As pointed out on the main board, Tek was by no means captain from 1997-2011.

Abraham truly does give zero effort.

http://www.boston.co...ek_to_anno.html

Edit: It has now been amended to 2005-2011. As usual, PeteAbe was in such a rush to break the story that he neglected to fact-check.

He claims that photo of Crawford indicates he's closed his stance. Check where the plate and Carl's back foot are. Sure looks like a very open stance in that photo.

Off for a few days. Catch you on Tuesday. No blog, no Twitter and hopefully no writing.

Unless it's a urgent personal matter, this is ridiculous. Two weeks into Spring Training, games starting, and he's taking a long weekend?

If there are multiple Globe reporters in Ft Myers (which there are), why does Abraham need to be at the park every day? Six weeks away from the family for work is a lot, even for someone with his job. Maybe he's flying his family down for a few days at Mickey's house. Maybe he's visiting family in the area. Who gives a shit?

Sorry, but the guy's been on light duty since the end of September, so it's not exactly been very long to be away from his family. The timing's especially odd, since action is just picking up.

Abraham's effort is the underlying theme of this thread. If you disagree, fine.

IIRCC, Pete is the one who confirmed (from what he called a Red Sox source) a local TV report of players drinking in the dugout, that was subsequently vehemently denied (unliike the beer in the clubhouse story). You think Beckett et all are talking much to him? If not, must be a bit uncomfortable for him. Have to get away from all that stress once in awhile.

Shows you what the national outlets must think of him that he doesn't already have a job for ESPN or Yahoo or MLB Network or something like that. Hell, Bert Breer got hired away from the Globe by the NFL Network, it's not like the bar is that high.

There's another factor that may prevent him from being considered by a network:
