Yesterday I posted:
The fact that he retreated to the luxurious isolated comfort of his yacht instead of sticking around Fenway makes me want to call him Thurston Howell IV.

I saw that, and thought of the post too, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. I mean, John Henry on a yacht?Coincidence?

But the juxtaposition is beyond odd given the timing, the identical contexts, the fact that PeteAbe is a regular reader of this site, and the fact that numerous posters here and elsewhere have made note of blog posts, tweets, one-liners, etc. written by others that have somehow made their way into his works.
I'd like to hope a Red Sox beat writer for the Boston Globe is above this.

Just to be clear, I don't own the copyright on Gilligan's Island characters, nor has the estate of Jim Backus granted me any exclusivity of use. I'm not the first person to make a Thurston Howell joke, and I won't be the last.

Technically you didn't mention a Gilligan's Island character. You mentioned Thurston Howell IV, which would have been the character's son.

I didn't realize he does this. I don't see mention of it in this thread, is there somewhere else someone has pointed it out? Not that I doubt you, but if he's copying other people's stuff, that is pretty shameless.and the fact that numerous posters here and elsewhere have made note of blog posts, tweets, one-liners, etc. written by others that have somehow made their way into his works.
And I stopped following him on Twitter because I find him irritating in that mode. I haven't had a problem with his blog stuff.

Who do you think ran the resort in The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island?

Nope, but it's life. I have long had the impression that plenty of paid media types trawl SoSH for ideas, and recycle them freely without credit. Once it is posted on here, it's public domain -- but a tip of the cap would be more appropriate. That's just the academic in me, I suppose. An astute SoSH dope alerted me to the following...

I'm glad some other people noticed this because I did as well and did not think it was a coincidence at all.
It seemed like some "Denis Leary reworking/rewording a Bill Hicks joke to make it his own" level of thing. Not technically plagiarism or joke-theft but c'mon dude.

I'm sure we all do this. Friend A tells a joke to me in group A. If it is good, you can be sure I drop it next time I'm with group B.

Then again, someone like Shank we all write what he's going to write before he's written it because we've seen his tired shit so many times before.

Mazzarotti acknowledged taking something out of the old 'members only' forum, as I recall, when Schilling posted something there. So it definitely does occur.

Can't remember if I (or anyone else) ever noted that two weeks after The Last DiMaggio posted this in January, Abraham posted this. Yeah, I bet it wouldn't be hard to find other folks who have shot this, and it could be a total coincidence, but the timing was curious.Nope, but it's life. Get ready for a douche response by Peter Abraham. Read this on Twitter:
"@JimmyBurns: @PeteAbe Not trying to troll, but response is needed. Thoughts on this SoSH thread accusing you of stealing material?
Don't hold your breath for said douche response. According to @JimmyBurns, PeteAbe "sent me a DM saying he has only been on the site 3 times in his life, and that the whole thread is BS."
Heh. Only 3 times. Yeah. Right.

I'm impressed that PeteAbe has managed to post 38 times in 2 visits, and then returned to check up on his work last night.
Unless he subcontracts his posting or farms out the detail work, of course. Perhaps his reports should be signed
from the Studio of Peter Abraham.

It's a shame because I like Abraham, but he does some really weird shit. He's definitely Tweeted about SoSh and mentioned it in one of his chats.
Well, we can add "completely forgetting I participated in a chat... AT SOSH!!" to that list of really weird shit.
Seriously, you can't make this up.
If Pete's ever the only witness who can provide an alibi for an accused murderer, the suspect is pretty much guaranteed to be convicted.

Iam anti-Twitter. I think it’s dumbing down too many writers. Nothing you do onyour phone in 140 characters can have much substance. I try and use it to linkto what I write on Boston.com that hopefully does have substance. I thinkeventually newspapers will figure out that Twitter should be a conduit. Were I a sports editor, I’d be pissed that my writers were writing more for Twitter.comthan my paper’s site.

But this is pretty low. The dumb thing is most of us wouldn't care if he had just owned up to it. Something like "Yeah, I thought I read it somewhere, must have been in my head when I was writing, sorry." That's sort of lazy and unprofessional, but flatly denying it is definitely worse.
The most amazing thing to me is that his snark would seem to just hurt his own ability to do his job. I can't believe that anyone on the team would talk to him (especially the guys like Ellsbury who he takes shots at), and he often directly insults his more intelligent readers.

Perfect post. I followed initially too but had to stop after awhile for everything you mentioned. I had such high hopes initially too.I unfollowed him a bit ago, but it sucks because he does have a lot of good news in between the garbage, and usually faster than others. And he knows what he's talking about for the most part. But my stress level couldn't handle it.

I'm not trying to be a contrarian here, but if you did a Family Feud style question of "Who is the most well-known fictional rich guys?", Thurston Howell III would probably come in second behind Mr. Burns. And the odds go up if you add the qualifier "boat-bound rich guy". Aside from George Bluth Sr., I can't think of another fictional rich guy who had a bad experience on a boat other than Howell.

Sure. But then why did he lie about not visiting the site? And why not just post that since he probably looked at this thread?I'm not trying to be a contrarian here, but if you did a Family Feud style question of "Who is the most well-known fictional rich guys?", Thurston Howell III would probably come in second behind Mr. Burns. If Pete's response was a snarky way of saying "that's preposterous, it's a coincidence," then I guess it fits into his personality which I addressed in the rest of my post.

I can understand why the CHB wants to revive the masturbatory self-loathing of the pre-2004 Nation -- with a few tweaks to include the 2011 September collapse, he can rush "The Curse of the Bambino" to another printing. But why would Pete A want to scuttle 21st century baseball and reclaim the loser garb? Just to feel like he's super tough when he's in the press box?

I don't know. It's pretty dumb of him to say considering how easy it is to double-check, but my point wasn't to defend that.

Why? He got a chance to actually participate in the running of a sports team, not just write about what the team he covered was doing. To do rather than just cover and report. Sounds to me like he leaped at a great opportunity. If only Chris Snow hadn't left the job for the Minnesota Wild. I am sure that he wishes he had stayed covering the Red Sox for the Globe as well.
He's now with the Calgary Flames this summer as their Director of Video and Statistical Analysis.
I'm fairly positive he has no regrets.

It's also possible that he hasn't been around in a long time and only looked at this thread after Jimmy Burns tweeted him. I haven't compared the time stamps to when Jimmy Burns tweeted him and when he checked the site because it isn't important to me.I don't know. It's pretty dumb of him to say considering how easy it is to double-check, but my point wasn't to defend that.
Like JMOH said, coming up with Thurston Howell III isn't exactly tough to do when you hear the owner of a team slipped on his yacht and couldn't make the press conference.
He's still a thin skinned reporter and that would probably explain why he tried to downplay how often he visits the site. "Officer this is like only the second time I have ever gone 65 in this 55mph stretch of highway."

I wish people would stop retweeting that plagiarist.
Looking at you, Costanza.
It IS a good idea.
I called him out on his snarky bullshit at the end of August. He and I got into it with a little back and forth:
At least twice a game
RT
Of course this didn't change anything, but it was a worth a shot. And in fairness, the 'take another hit and relax' line made me chuckle.
