Wolfsburg won the Bundesliga just two years ago, and may be relegated this year. It's definitely a more unpredictable league than England or Spain these days.

Chesterfield has secured a promotion to League One, the first club to do so in League Two and they currently sit at the top of the table with 81 points, four points clear of Bury with most clubs having two or three matches remaining after today.

QPR almost went up to the Premiership today - but a draw leaves some mathematical threads dangling. They are virtually certain to go, however. On the Championship flipside, Sheffield, Scunthorpe and Preston North End look to have relegation sewn up (again, with a few scenarios preventing an outright clinch).

I do. That was the 97-98 season they won the Bundesliga, right? Crazy.

Betis and Rayo Vallecano look set to get promoted in Spain.

For the first time in a while the third team will be determined via a four team playoff. Known quantity Celta should be in the mix plus Granada (who gained promotion last season from the Segunda B). Elche, Valladolid, Cartagena and even good ol' Alcorcon are in the mix for the playoffs.

Spain's Segunda still has seven weeks left. They always end in mid-late June.

It looks like everything is set in the Championship with a week to spare (unless Forest loses, Leeds wins, and Leeds can make up 6 goals in GD).

Promoted: QPR, Norwich City
Promotion Playoffs: Cardiff, Swansea, Reading, Nottingham Forest
Relegated: Sheffield United, Scunthorpe, Preston North End

That is, unless QPR are docked points over claims of third-party ownership of Alejandro Faurlin.

I'm a longtime Huddersfield fan, and it looks like we're gonna end up just short of an automatic place despite a great finish to the season - Southampton have it pretty much sewn up. We're on 86 from 45, though, which would have been an automatic place 8 of the last 10 seasons.

In Espana, Hercules looks just about to for relegation after losing at Malaga over the weekend. That third relegation spot will go down to the last day.

Rayo and Betis can clinch promotion in their midweek matches next week. Third promotion spot won't be decided until June after the playoffs. Current playoff teams are Celta, Elche, Granada and Valladolid. Of those four, I'd have to go with Valladolid right now. Pucelanos are playing exceptionally well. Javi Guerra is a beast.

My favorite part of the Paul Lambert story is that he was hired by Norwich after the Canaries lost 7-1 in their first game in League One. The loss, of course, came at the hands of Colchester, who were managed by none other than...Paul Lambert. That's how you force your way into a job!

Kudos to Zak Whitbread for actually staying healthy during the stretch run. It's nice to see another American go up to the Premier League.

Halftime of the Conference promotion playoff semifinal first leg between Fleetwood Town and AFC Wimbledon. Since it hadn't rained in a couple weeks, they watered the pitch before the match; of course, it starts pouring midway through the first half. Players slipping left and right, making the terrible football even more enjoyable to watch.

After the portly, salt-and-pepper haired central defender for Fleetwood played the ball back into the box to no one in particular, the other Luke Moore pounced on it to give the Dons a 1-0 halftime lead.

The only booking: a yellow card to Fleetwood's 37 year-old, pleasantly plump CM trying to regain possesion near Wimbledon's box with a bouncy slide tackle. The ensuing mmoments saw the teams getting to know each other a bit better.

in other news, Luton scored a 3-0 road victory over Wrexham in the first leg of the other semifinal

AFC Wimbledon won the second leg in a laugher, 6-1. Fleetwood's back line was laughably inept.

Luton Town won 2-1 yesterday, so the teams play in the final (at City of Manchester Stadium) for a spot in the Football League, May 21.

8 years ago Swansea City barely avoided relegation from the Football League on the last day of the season. Now they are one win from the Premiership, after beating Forest in the Championship playoff semi-final. Reading and Cardiff play the second leg of their semi-final tomorrow (first leg was 0-0). If Cardiff prevails, we will be guaranteed a Welsh team in the Premier League for the first time.

Given the rivalry between Swansea and Cardiff, I would guess the Wembley security forces are hoping Reading wins tomorrow.

Police were called to the Grosvenor House Hotel in Central London after West Ham supporters, who paid to attend the dinner, fought with security staff.

As has been covered several times now by the Milwall contingent, West Ham have clinched relegation. But look at the race to avoid the other 2 spots.

15. Blackburn 40 points, -14 GD
16. Wolverhampton 40 points, -19 GD
17. Birmingham 39 points, -20 GD
18. Blackpool 39 points, -21 GD
19. Wigan Athletic 39 points, -22 GD

Wolves host Blackburn, Birmingham are away to Spurs, Blackpool are at Old Trafford, and Wigan travel to Stoke.

While Blackpool seemingly have the toughest matchup, Man U will no doubt be resting key players for the Champions League Final. Spurs need a win to be assured of finishing 5th (and claiming a Europa League spot). Stoke can still finish anywhere from 8th to 12th. And Blackburn/Wolves both know that a win will guarantee staying up, while a draw could send them both down. With all the games being played at the same time, Sunday will definitely be fun for the neutral and agonizing for fans of any of these teams.

Apparently they had to pay up front and confirm in the morning that they wanted the flight to go ahead. At half time they must have been feeling a bit nervous to say the least... now it looks fucking inspired.

Two 'tasty' games coming up next season...

Depends on the schedule.

My parents are moving to the UK next month, so I'm sure we'll be going over more often. Also, I should be able to come up with creative lay-overs for work-trips back to the Netherlands.

Fingers crossed.

Although I would also really like to see Swansea - Cardiff if it comes to that.

ET in the Conference playoff final between Luton Town and AFC Wimbledon. About as much action as one can get in a 0-0 match, loads of corners as well, but poor finishing at both ends, and a goal disallowed for AFC.

I say the Premier League would be a better place without Blackburn, and I've never liked Birmingham since Trevor Francis got Barry Kitchener sent off in 1971, so they can drop down as well...

After Holloway jacked up the price on Charlie Adam in January, saying how he was worth the financial difference between staying up and going down, I'd find it funny if they went down anyways. Of the rest, Birmingham has been a bogey team for Liverpool the past several years, so I'm fine with them going.

So would Blackpool losing to Man U. There are a ton of possibilities still out there. Even if Wolves get a goal to lose by a closer score, they may be OK. There's a good chance that goal differential will decide at least 1 spot.

At halftime of all the games, Birmingham, Blackpool, Wigan, and Wolves are all on 40 points. Birmingham are -20, Blackpool -21, and Wigan and Wolves -22. It's the 3 W's (Wigan, Wolves, West Ham) doomed, for the moment.

This may go down to the final seconds of the season.
