Maybe the Sox can find Beckett's ex-girlfriend to come sing the anthem or something. Worked before. Win.

Let me be the first to write today "this game has reverse lock written all over it."

Everyone take a big afternoon nap, because this one likely won't end until after 1:00 AM.

Note to Red Sox: Score more runs than the other team.

Beckett needs to show command of his pitches, and brass balls tomorrow night (not throwing balls of course). He needs to channel his inner 2007, and be the stopper he once was. He must come inside early and often. That's his plate. Jeter, Rodriguez, and the like think it's theirs. Back those fuckers off the dish. Straighten them up. Even hit one or two between the shoulder blades to get the message across: "That's my plate, bitch". You cannot pitch effectively if you don't command the inner half, and for me, that's the biggest reason the Sox starters have faltered. So Josh, for all of our sakes pitch, battle, and win tomorrow night. Give us a reason to be optimistic, because right now I have a sinking feeling. Sinking feelings are never good, especially this early in April.

Beckett shutting out the MFY through 7 and CC being knocked out by the 4th seems improbable, but this is a season where improbable rules the day. So let it happen..

I think that he will try sticking with Crawford at leadoff:
Crawford
Pedroia
Gonzalez
Youkilis (maybe he won't misread outside pitches from lefties as badly)
Cameron
Ortiz
Varitek
Scutaro
Ellsbury (this guy's body language spells defeat - what's up with him?)

Is it possible that we were THIS wrong about this team? I don't think so! Win tonight, and that's 2 out of 3, which I would have taken in a heartbeat Friday morning.

At this point, any ship that Dougie is on is more likely to sink in the harbor.

I havent had a single drink thus far in the 2011 season...amazingly. Thats likely to change with a couple innings of Beckett against the MFY lineup.

Win anyway.

Time for a pitcher to suck it up and dont give up homeruns. Becket is the one, easy sox win.

And CC will be upset because Colon seems to be the best fat pitcher on the staff.

I read this as a move to discipline Ellsbury. The guy has been behaving like a pouting child since he was dropped down in the order. I would have actually liked to see McDonald instead of Drew tonight. I see Lowrie as a useful pinch-hitter if a lefty is still pitching in a close, late game.

Good info in a Speier column today on how the Sox hitters have fared against CC.

Ellsbury is .077/.077/.154 in 13 PAs. Lowest on the team.

So the Ells sit is more of a numbers thing than a "pouting " issue. I think that in the light of what's been going on, no one is really "pouting". Guys are grinding and no one is going to put up with anything less in the clubhouse, especially Pedey!!!

Is there some story or news about Ells' "pouting?"

I'd think it's got more to do with the fact that Ells' numbers against CC are positively dreadful.

EDIT: what mauidano said.

My heart tells me the string of Red Sox World Series titles in this century will begin to form a Fibonacci sequence. My head tells me this is a 3rd place team in this division. Either way, tonight is a reverse lock.

Lowrie went 3-4 last night and he doesn't get a second start in a row? Against a lefty? Kind of surprised. Over the last three years Lowrie is .324/.403/.541/.944 against LHP. Is there even one good reason not to have him in the lineup?

I'm pretty surprised that Lowrie hasn't been getting more PT in general. I was expecting the SS situation to be similar to the CF situation between Crisp and Ellsbury in 2008, but so far it's just looking like Scutaro is the starter, which is really lame. The bonehead error aside, Lowrie has outplayed Scutaro handily.

SSS and all, but Pedroia is the only IF that is worse against CC than Lowrie.

Pedroia .107/.194/.143 in 32 PAs
Lowrie .167/.167/.167 in 6 PAs

Your head is an idiot.

And if your heart thinks the Sox are going to win the World Series twice in 2013 then it probably isn't that bright either.

I don't have a whole lot of hope to win tonight but we're going to rip through Tampa, Toronto, and the West Coast like you wouldn't believe.
