Gritty win for Duke last night. Didn't shoot well from 3 (5-20) but played good enough defense to win. Free throw shooting continues to be a major concern.
From a UVA perspective, Mike Scott was really impressive. UVA does a good job of playing solid defense and playing the game at their pace. It's not all that exciting, but it's effective, and it was nearly good enough to win last night.

It's mid-January and I have no idea what to make of Carolina this year. I guess the main thing right now is that they are probably gonna lose to FSU today and haven't shown that they are capable of winning anything away from Chapel Hill. Barnes has been less than impressive a lot of times this year and their 3 point shooters off the bench have cooled way off after starting hot.

For one the 93 Tar Heels lost by 25 to Wake Forest so it wouldn't be unheard of but there were some frightening scenes out of today's game that they're going to have to get over and not linger on. They've got another road game in Blacksburg this week; a good response would be to win there.

Read that Kyrie Irving has a "5 year" agreement with his family to graduate from Duke. We'll see if he can pull it off but it'd be impressive nonetheless. I guess he's planning on taking summer classes and working out with current Duke players every summer.

He stuck around this past summer and fall taking classes during the Lockout (not sure if he completed the fall semester, given the NBA started back up...final exams would have been in early December, and the lockout ended officially Dec 8th...).Read that Kyrie Irving has a "5 year" agreement with his family to graduate from Duke. He needs ~32 classes to graduate (Duke doesn't do credits or hours or anything like that, a class is a class...or more accurately, every class just counts as 1.0 credits). He probably took 8 his first year, another 2-4 in the summer (maybe 2 in the summer before his freshman year as well), and then another 4 this past semester...puts him between 14-18, so about halfway there. If he can take 3 classes a summer the next 4 years (there are two summer sessions, and it's possible to take two classes in each session), he'll be able to finish.

Who plays back-up point guard? Stillman White has been terrible. This is a huge blow. Not a championship team anyway, obviously, but I really liked Strickland. Seemed to give a fuck and not just be out there auditioning for the NBA.

Duke simpy is not playing defense to the level we've come to expect over the years. They actually had a great first half, holding FSU to 23 points until FSU banked in a 3 to end the half. Then Duke simply couldn't stop them in the 2nd half - 50 points. Curry and Rivers are great offensive players, but just aren't there defensively. Tyler Thornton is a liability offensively so it's tough to give him too much run. Not sure what K is going to do here.

Duke could have a tough task ahead tonight. Maryland is usually pretty tough to beat at home (10-1 at home this season,) and the crowd is going to be crazy tonight.

Ugly, but a win. Mason Plumlee needs to play like a man the rest of the season.
Since the 2 for 10 free throw debacle against UVA, he is 15-18 from the line the last 4 games. May be a small sample size fluke, but even if he could just shoot free throws at a 60% clip the rest of the year, it would be huge.

Agree. They don't root for MD. They root against the other team and the refs.Normally I'd be against that dunk at the end of the game but Maryland's student section is so stupid I wish Henson could have dunk-faced everybody in it.

I think they have shitty decision making in tense moments. That's tough to fix as its now Feb and the freshman are still playing like freshman even after 4 months (including China trip).
The last few losses have been due to lack of focus. That won't be a problem for the UNC game wednesday, so that game should be telling.
