Nope, they called up Casey Kotchman, who will serve as their primary first baseman (with Johnson moving to DH). (link)

That'll definitely solve their offensive woes...

The Twins are a mess right now. This game was especially frustrating to watch. Joe Nathan has blown two save opportunities in four days, and Matt Capps blew his Thursday night as well. Awful, awful start to their season.

TB's pitching and defense is impeccable. Combine that with their timely hitting and they're just a darn good baseball team, fun to watch and hard not to root for. It's unfortunate their lack of offense will break them later down the track.

Felipe Lopez issues

Rays INF Felipe Lopez was pulled from the game in the middle of the 11th inning by manager Joe Maddon for a lack of hustle.

Lopez did not run hard to first on an 11th-inning ground ball that ended up being bobbled, costing the Rays a baserunner in a key situation, amplified when Sean Rodriguez followed with a walk. It was the second time this week Lopez clearly did not run hard all the way to first - which is one of Maddon's cardinal rules - and the issue was brought to his attention after the first incident in Wednesday's game.

This the second controversy involving Lopez, a 30-year-old veteran infielder who came to the Rays with somewhat of a checkered past. He flung his bat at White Sox pitcher Chris Sale after hitting a home run April 9, and drew a stern rebuke from Maddon, who said then, among other things, "That's not how we play. ... We don't do that here.''

Lopez didn't make the Rays team out of spring training, but was called up before ever heading to Triple-A Durham when Evan Longoria got hurt.

He was not immediately available in the clubhouse after the game for comment.

Upton gets 2 game suspension

Rays outfielder B.J. Upton will be suspended two games by Major League Baseball and fined $1,500 for his outburst in Wednesday's game versus the Blue Jays.

Upton said he plans to appeal the suspension, which was announced by the league Saturday, but won't begin serving it until after the Rays complete their weekend series at Baltimore.

After being called out on strikes in the ninth inning of the Rays' 3-2 loss to Toronto Wednesday, Upton was ejected and had a tirade aimed at home plate umpire Chad Fairchild, tossing his helmet and batting gloves and having to be restrained by third base coach Tom Foley and bench coach Dave Martinez.

If upheld, it will be the first suspension of Upton's career.
