After Pujols's 3 GIDP, a blown save from Franklin and extra-innings loss on opening day and now this, the cloud over Busch Stadium grows darker.

Pujols left the game early against the Royals because of a collision with Betemit. Early reports are that it's a sprained wrist.

I hope I am just being overly wary here, but this strikes me as irresponsible. I suppose the race is tight, but this is a pretty big gamble.
Does anyone know of players that have come back early from a similar injury?

Per the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Ryan Franklin has been released.
Thankfully. His standard numbers were great in '09, but even then his peripherals were not all that strong. They should have known he was never good enough to stick at closer on a playoff team . . .

Laird was activated from the DL, Hamilton was sent down. Cardinals are carrying 3 catchers.
Augenstein was DFA to make room for Walters on the 40 man roster.

Four years guaranteed, with a fifth and sixth year club options. $27 million guaranteed, with the options bringing the total value to $50 million. As far as I can tell, this buys out his arbitration years and his first year of free agency (correct me if I'm wrong). This takes him through his age 28 season (30 with the options).
This seems to me like a great deal for the Cards. As good as Garcia's been, he'd get a lot more than this in arbitration. The total commitment of $27 is not very much, so not huge risk involved. The club options are huge for the cards, since they are apparently only in the $11 million range. He doesn't have to be much better than league average for this to be worthwhile, so it'll be a good deal basically as long as he can stay healthy.
