Folks, I'm going ask you all to donate money / blood as soon as you can.
I just hope that our resident Tulane doctor is safe, sound, and is doing the best job that he can.

Indeed.
On another note.
Blood, SWEAT, toil, and tears.
Work, lads, work hard and earnestly.

Big Lee, this is for you.
Folks, I'm going ask you all to donate money / blood as soon as you can.

I second that emotion. Donate clothing as well.
And now back to the game.
The SoSH relief staff is coming up aces. Keep the train rolling.

And, of course, the gyrating Jessica Alba right up front on each thread doesn't hurt either.

Do I feel the smallest amount of sympathy for their plight? Not the slightest bit. The O's have been a constant, irritating thorn in our side for the past couple seasons, most recently whuppin' the Sox 3 out of 4 right before the All-Star break, with the lyin', cheatin' Senor Esteroids leading the charge.
I say: let's add to their misery. In a big way. A sweep is all I'm looking for. Is this really too much to ask?

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, but what the heck happened to SoSH? Where are all the threads?
And what happened to Big Lee? I gather he's in New Orleans. Has anyone heard from him?

None of the Sox have ever faced him at the Major League level.
vs.
Lenny DiNardo (0-0 10.80)
He's pitched out of the pen once against the O's this year:
1.0 IP 2 H 0 R 0 ER 0 HR 0 BB 1 SO
Last year he made one relief appearance against them: 2.0 3 3 3 1 1 0
Melvin Mora (2-2) has the homer off him.

It’s time for Jose Melendez’s KEYS TO THE GAME.
1. Jose is sick. And it’s not some BS made up illness like Fenway Fever or the Vaughn Eshelman Flu (note: remember Wade Boggs’ unwillngness to face the unfamiliar lefty in 1995?). The way Jose figures it, he probably has either Western Equine Encephalitis or East Nile Virus. But not to worry, those two aren’t nearly as severe as the illnesses from the opposite directions.
To make matters worse, this is the first KEYS Jose is writing on his brand new computer, and making the switch from PC to Mac, Word to AppleWorks seems certain to result in some problems. It’s like making the transition from reliever to starter midseason. Jose should really be getting himself stretched out before he writes a full KEYS on this thing. You know, writing 100 words today, 250 on Sunday, 500 on Tuesday and then and only then giving a go at a full KEYS maybe a week from today. But with the season winding down, Jose just doesn’t have that much time to waste. The team needs him now.
Now you may be asking “Jose, what good can a Jose who is not only sick, but also getting stretched out possibly do for us?” Jose does not know. He only knows that he needs to try. For God’s sake Leonardo DiNardo is starting tonight. It’s not like the Red Sox can win this game on their own.
Besides a DiNardo start is always something to tune in to, as he is the first Red Sox pitcher since Rafael Bettancort (note: did he ever actually play for the big team?) to be named after a teenage mutant ninja turtle.
Ugh... that was pretty terrible. Much like the Red Sox starters for the last three nights, Jose has looked weak, really weak early. But can he now turn it around?
2. Arthroscopically repaired closer Keith Foullke returned to the big club yesterday after his third rehab appearance in Lowell. While Foulke pitched poorly in all three outings, it is possible that his struggles were more mental than physical. A confused Foulke was seen approaching the Lowell visitors information center several times in the past week and asking “I heard you have a famous Foulke and Heritage Festival here with Zydeco music, and ethnic food and dancing, and I’d like to know where my royalty check is.”
Still, even with the distraction of royalties removed from his field of view, Jose is concerned about whether Foulke will be able to perform in Boston. Someone, probably Foulke himself, but Jose won’t swear to it, speculated yesterday that perhaps the increased intensity of Boston would be all the righty needed to return to form.
Please tell Jose that we are not down down to the “He sucked playing against bad players, so all he needs is to play against better players argument.” This is the baseball equivalent of the couple who, struggling mightily to make a relationship work, decide that getting married will probably make things better. Of course that is still better than the struggling married couple who decide that having a child will improve the marriage.
Jose knows three things. Getting married has never saved a bad relationship, having a baby has never saved a bad marriage, and facing better hitters has never saved a bad pitcher. Jose is worried.
3. Baltimore counters Lenny DiNardo tonight by starting a young pitcher named John Maine. The story of Maine’s promotion to the big league’s is a bit unusual. Apparently, he was brought up to the Orioles at exactly the same time as pitcher Bill Missouri as part of a carefully crafted compromise to maintain balance on the issue of slavery in the Orioles clubhouse.
I’m Jose Melendez , and those are my KEYS TO THE GAME.

After spending the first couple months of the season as the American League's critical darling, the Orioles have hit the skids. Their embedded-MFY manager has been fired. Their staff ace has been summarily dismissed for being a drunk. Their one-time HOF-bound first baseman has disgraced himself, and has taken to wearing earplugs to suppress the incessant booing directed his way at baseball venues nationwide.

Gorton, couldn't agree more, perfect comments, win.
Pre-edit test. Post works?
Real edit: cool, working. This baltimore team is toast, a shadow. They are beatable, just win, again, at home, and do not stop.

We need to continue to win during the soft underbelly of the schedule, and gain some separation. Stay focused Sox and get it done.
And as for BLS and NOLASOXFAN and all the other SoSHers with family and friends along the Gulf Coast are thoughts and hopefully a ton of money are with you.

Orioles - John Maine (1-1 2.70)
None of the Sox have ever faced him at the Major League level.
The Sox' ridiculous home field offense v. the Sox' ridiculous tendency to get shut down by young pitchers they've never seen before.
Should be interesting!

If Timlin is unavailable tonight, who pitches top of 9th with Sox leading 4-3, or 6-5, or 9-8, or 12-11?
Foulke?
Bradford/Myers, I'd assume.

I have been watching him for a couple of years now. He may not have Saturn balls, but he does have something on his glove that says a lot about the type of guy he is out there. He wrote "J.V" with a black marker on the thumb area of his glove. Every time he gets in a pinch or needs to settle down, he just looks down and tells himself, "It's just JV ball."
So Lenny, go out there & show 'em what you got and show 'em you want to stay!
