I suppose the hurricane being named Hurricane Ditka may have something to do with it. What we should expect to see this weekend:

Jim Nantz cutting alimony checks to this broad.

This smug guy.

This guy won his man tiff with Josh McDaniels but that's about all he has won.

Skilled scrambles around the Chicago MLB.

Lovie Smith.

Another win.

I'm not really worried about a letdown, but just in case: Pats clinch a playoff berth with a win in Chicago.

I think Solider Field is the only stadium left that Brady has never played in before. The '02 game was at Memorial Stadium because the Bears were renovating Soldier.

Hasn't played at New Cowboys Stadium yet either.

Hopefully in February.

Early salvo from Urlacher:

"Remember, we have [the Patriots] at home … the same like Philly,'' Urlacher told theChicago Tribune, referring to a 31-26 win over the Eagles. "When we played Philly, everybody was saying they were the best, right? It's the same situation, and hopefully the same result.

"New England is the best team in the NFL, record-wise. But I feel like we're the best team, period. That's why I say record-wise. They have the best quarterback, numbers-wise. And everybody likes to go by numbers, right?''

Here’s more from Urlacher on Brady:

"Right now, he's playing better than anybody,'' Urlacher said. "There's no doubt about that. Comparing with Peyton Manning, they're just different. Well, maybe they're not different because both run their offenses. Whatever they want to do, they do it. But Brady's doing it better right now.

"He doesn't make any mistakes with the football. You're not going to trick him. You just better stick to your roles.'"

This entire sequence confuses me. Talk about muddled thoughts.

So, I poked around on ESPNChicago, and this was the first article listed on their blog. It's so ridiculous it almost has to be satire...right?

Wow.

Jay Cutler could be Tom Brady.

...

Work on your image: It's not that Brady is above reproach. To the contrary, he has had a child out of wedlock and is not the easiest interview in the world.

I mean, when you preface your argument with "It's not as absurd as it sounds", things can't be good.

That is awesome.

Stick with Martz: Brady has been in the same offensive system under Bill Belichick his entire 10-year career. Cutler has had three different offensive coordinators the past three seasons.

The same Bill Belichick who decided to stop call his offensive coordinator that so he wouldn't have to find a new one every season? It also does an incredible job of dancing around the fact that Cutler can't read defenses or do reads all that well(maybe this year, I don't think i've seen any of their games, but the results seem better).

The team is saying it isn't injury related.

Patriots safety Patrick Chung and linebacker Brandon Spikes did not participate in Thursday’s practice, but their absence was not injury-related, according to the team.

They run the ball pretty well in the red zone. BJGE has been a force inside the ten - and on short yardage plays generally.

It's difficult to overrate the impact Logan Mankins' return has had on that group.

Brady hasn't played at Qwest Field or Candlestick since he missed them both in 08. Don't think he's played at Raymond James (preseason doesn't count)either as the Pats haven't played at Tampa since the week Drew and Zo were in the moshpit.

Patriots rushing offense is #1 in the NFL per DVOA, both adjusted and non-adjusted.

Chicago is third from the bottom in offensive DVOA.

Jinxes are stupid to believe in, but wasn't there a lot made of Maroney's lack of fumbles heading into last season? Like, "he sucks, but he doesn't fumble!" Then he sucked and fumbled quite a bit.

Jinxes only exist because by the time you start talking about something it probably means good fortune has played a significant role in the performance and it's only a matter of time before everything evens out. Hence the SI Cover jinx, you make the SI cover because you're playing over your head. Of course that isn't going to last.

I heard on the DA show that the Pats are planning on leaving tomorrow at 3PM. Given the weather they are expecting at the expected arrival time I'm hoping that they don't die. Chicago is scary enough to land in when the weather is relatively good. Every time I go, it seems the planes land at a much faster speed than anywhere else to keep the cross winds from affecting the landing angle of the plane. I hate flying to Chicago.

I think bad weather helps the Pats. It neutralizes their biggest weakness: passing D. The Pats can stop the run just fine, for the most part.

On offense, I expect lots of short passing, which will be just fine with so many targets at TE and Welker.

I expect a total of 3 missed FGs from both teams, low score, 17-10, Pats.

It's been interesting to hear about how the shitty conditions and new turf will hurt the Pats passing attack. Sure, it will be harder for receivers to make quick cuts...but it will also be harder for that front four to get a good push on the Pats O-Line.

I will be stunned if the Pats score less than 20.

EDIT - Additionally, I am kind of amazed at this phenomenon of marking the Patriots down for winning so convincingly Monday. I've read at least 3-4 places that the Patriots have a lesser chance of winning this game because they played so well last week. That's fucking astonishingly illogical.

Why?

My guess would be that it's harder to plant, so it's harder to strain ligaments in the event of a momentum-stopping hit.

I think we win out this season. FootballOutsiders doesn't like the Bears (18th in total DVOA, 30th in Offense) and neither do I.

31-10 Pats, with a Pick6 (Arrington) and some big YACs off screens.

snowy, bitter cold in the windy city?

I would think that favors short/quick passes, a Pats strength

Pats need a good effort from the ground game to keep Bears D semi-honest

IMO the key question: Can the Kiddie corp. contain Cutler?

I think so

I'm going Pats 24
da Bears 14
