Asked if any rookie could start against him, Holmes said, "Negative. That was proven Super Bowl Sunday two years ago, when they had a rookie [the Cardinals' Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie] following me around the whole game.

"I wouldn't do it if I was them."

Lady luck is taking the week off for the jets so here is how the Pats win Monday night.

Pats 25- Jets 24

In a greuling 4th quarter the Patriots are down 24-18 when they are at 4th and 6 on the 50. TB tosses it deep, the ball looks off, but it doesn't matter because the jets safety facemasks him at the 2, essentailly giving the game to the Patriots all they need to do is plunge it in and make the extra point....After easily scoring they decide to pull a Lions and send out Vince Wilfork to kick an extra point and with Lady Luck off this week she makes it! Sealing the victory even with the silly finish. Count it!

Actually Tom throws two Tds and we get two safeties....
You can't question this! I put it through "the system" It's foolproof, ask Tom. Just don't ask Sean...he's a little moody

C'mon that's crazy. Try two rushing TDs by Brady, followed by 2 fake extra points to get to 16, followed by a Jets' punt snapped out of the back of their endzone...now that's a game worth watching.

TRic, don't rush the system. It's not something that you just casually throw together in a matter of seconds, it's a delicate system that takes hours of preparation.

Well I am officially jazzed up; going to the game - can't wait to experience the environment. First "big" game I have ever been to.

In terms of the game and my useless predictions... here are some random thoughts I have:

- Living in NY, I catch a good amount of Jets game and i think they may be one of the few teams that are actually worse then the Pats at getting to the quarterback.

- To the point above, it is almost as if the receiving core is set up to play this team. The Pats have shown all year long that they have total flexibility to write guys in and out of the offensive game plan on a weekly basis... and we still haven't SEEN Edelman. But if Tom has time to scan the field long enough to make all his reads, and come back to them on occasion... well, let's just say I like their odds.

- The Law Firm's style of play - or at least how we have used him - is a big part of why this offense is clicking. He hits the hole hard, follows blocks, and gains yards. It has to be one of the reasons Gronk has seen so much time... having Gronk on the line forces defensives to respect both the run and the play action equally.

- I hope we get good Chung... when he is playing at his best he thrives in that Rodney role and such an important part to that secondary

- Outside of the Cleveland game - I am so impressed with the run defense. Obviously Wilfork has been unstoppable and Mayo is developing into the beast we were hoping for... but a big nod goes to Brandon Spikes who has done a tremendous job in that role.

I split season tickets with like 8 pals - we each got two games (one seat) and draft day I took this game hoping that it would turn into my first big, meaningful Pats game. It's certainly nice when things work out like that.

Now just win!

What do you want me to say? I honestly don't think we can have a quality football discussion.

I get you love the Pats and you hate the Jets and that's cute and whatever. I am sure that's important in your life and that's great. I mean if you want to point to the fact the Pats have played a tougher schedule then the Jets thus far, I can't argue that. But this idea that you can compare how one team did against another when all the variables could be different is worthless.

You said in your post that you were '"dumbing it down" for this Jets fan that I guess was left speechless by your amazing system. Well, OK...but then why are you dumbing it down for us?

To be honest this goes beyond my disdain for the jets. It is more that I felt they don't deserve their wins. Yes, they have capitalized on things that other teams couldn't including the Pats, so in that sense they earned it. But it was frustrating to watch three weeks in a row the luck factor go so hard one way. There is always a variable left out of statistics or any comparision. I could spend the next week breaking down every single game of both teams on the season, injuries, weather, home field advantage, SoS, common game scores etc. In the end, you are correct, you cannot compare everything without a variable being left out. Does that mean we should not bother?

On that other site I WAS dumbing it down because the quality of football knowledge over there is clearly lower. I think I explained it and I may be wrong but I was asking the board what they thought? So while you gave criticism, it really wasn't constructive, just insulting. Again I never called it a system, and I wouldn't. It's a simplistic analysis of two teams and how they did score wise in similar and common games. That's all. No magic here. Obviously.

PS Of course we can have a quality FB discussion, bring something to the table. I tried, you consider it stupid and worthless, let's see what you got.

Elaborating on the above post. Might be a broken shin for Leonhard. Big loss for the Jets as they lose a safety and a punt returner.

Rex called Leonhard's injury severe and said he was carted off field. Smith and Pool will be the starting safeties

Rex said he's "assuming" there was a break but said he doesn't know specifics of the injury.

The Jets have been absurdly lucky with injuries for three years running, which I think has been essential for them because they have garbage for depth.

If they really are the team they claim to be then losing a good but not great safety/punt returner like Leonhard shouldn't be that big a deal.

I know it's football and all but we haven't been THAT lucky this year. Losing Kris Jenkins for the entire year has really affected the pass rush (especially when we don't blitz). Revis has had his problems and losing Calvin Pace for the early part of the season wasn't easy.

Leonhard is a nice player who rarely fucks up. It's a loss.

Smith is OK but Pool can worry me with making stupidass plays now and then.

In fairness to the Holmes point Theo brought up... I don't really count that as an injury because the Jets knew about that when they traded for him and had time to plan for that.

Yes, the Jenkins injuries have been pretty severe; Leon Washington was also lost last year for the Jets midway through the season with the broken leg (speaking of which, Brad Smith has been a terrific replacement for him). The Jets have been luckier than NE, I would think, but not immune.

Anyway, tough injury for Leonhard, who seemed to be a good guy. I suspect Ryan will be able to scheme around it to some extent, but the replacements are just not as reliable.

Not absurdly luck this year with this injury, but definitely on the lucky side.

Gosselin at the Dallas News does a report every year where he determines how many games have been lost by "starters" (essentially the projected starters on day one of camp) due to injury. It's crude (how do you account for a punter or kicker or nickel back who plays a lot, do you count a FB/second TE/third WR as the Jets' eleventh starter, if you lose four running backs for the season and are on a fifth string guy that counts as only 16 games lost by a starter) and it doesn't weight injuries by player position or quality of player (losing Revis is obviously worse than losing Richardson would be). Anyhow, it turns out that the 8 least injured teams lose between about 15-30 games or fewer to injury, the middle 16 somewhere between about 30-60, with the median being somewhere in the 40s (2.5 starters out a game), and the bottom 8 north of 60.

I might be missing a handful of starters (didn't Pool miss some games?) but right now the Jets look to be at about 27 for the season(16 for Jenkins, 4 for Pace, 2 for Revis, 5 for Leonhard. That normally puts them in the healthiest quartile in the leaguge.

No, I'm arguing that over the course of his career, he has not been at his top form against defenses coached by Ryan. Given the state of our defense, if the Jets protect the football, he may need to be Monday.
