From soxprospects.com poster noblepap (well know on that as to who she is)

I don't think Josh was a "courtesy pick" unless the Red Sox are not being truthful which I guess could be. Cherington was worried that Josh would think exactly that and called to make sure he didn't think that but that they thought he'd go back to school and wouldn't sign. How clubs get such wrong information is amazing. There were several clubs that for whatever reason thought Josh was a senior sign, as Jonathan would say why go back for your senior year when all you are going to get is a box of Cracker Jacks with the prize a plane ticket. Well now all those worried about a starter for the Sox, Jonathan can now move into the rotation and Josh can close.  It's been quite a day here, Jonathan is so happy for his brothers, Jeremy is at the batting cage so he will be ready to face Jonathan Jeremy is glad to be the Cubs first LHP pick. They are both anxious to start their careers and as Josh has said he will again have to prove everyone wrong that he belongs (just like he had to walk on at UNF) and he knows he will be compared to Jonathan and that is just fine it will make him want to fill those shoes all that much more.

Not to be the turd in the punchbowl, but I will... It took one very impressive defensive play and a second defensive play I'd rate as difficult, but not spectacular to give Papelbon that perfect ninth. He got hit pretty well in two of the three at bats, but Kristopher Negron made some really nice plays.

It's the only time I've seen him pitch, but he didn't seem as impressive as his numbers would indicate. Might just be a weird day for him, though.

I'm far from an expert, but I think the knock on him was that he doesn't have overwhelming stuff. I've been suprised by his level of success in light of what I was hearing when he was drafted. If your (admittedly small sample-size) evaluation is right, he may be in for a comeuppance once he moves up to AA.

Hard to guess pitch speeds when you're not in your usual seats (they had the guns turned on for the first few batters of each game, but not after that), but I'd guess Paps was low to mid 80's.

Got some pics of his funky motion (none with the knuckles hitting the dirt, unfortunately), but the stress he puts his arm through cannot be a healthy thing!

From his wikipedia site:

"Josh's and Jeremy's teams launched the 'Papelbon Papel-bet,' in which the twin with the lowest ERA at the end of the season will get to name a charity to which his brother's team must make a donation. [2] For every half-run difference between the twins' ERA, the losing team will pay $50."

Josh and Jeremy setting up Jon would make a very effective Papelpen, with the junkballing side-armers from each side, then the heat from the big bro at the end.

RotoWorld.com had this to say about Josh today...

Josh Papelbon struck out three in two perfect innings to earn a relief win Monday for low Single-A Greenville.
Papelbon has a 2.19 ERA and five saves as Greenville's closer. His 2007 season is off to a better start than that of twin brother Jeremy, who has a 6.97 ERA in 10 1/3 innings for the Cubs' low-A affiliate in Peoria. Jeremy was considered to have the higher ceiling of the two coming out of North Florida, but Josh, as a submarining right-hander with the ability to get plenty of grounders, probably has the better chance of reaching the majors someday. Neither is a fantasy prospect.
