Go figure. I start a gamethread, the Sox win a thrilling extra innings game against the Yankees. I can't take all the credit though.

All hail your new overlord....

Today is my last full day in Camp Atterbury, Indiana before a week vacation with my fiancee. Then it's off too Afghanistanimationland. I wouldn't mind the last baseball game of the year I'm privileged enough to watch being a win that could deny the Yankees the division.

Let's make it happen.

It's possible that the best thing for the Yankees would be to lose this game and enter the playoffs on a more friendly wild card path. That might be the better tactical option for them.

Here's to the Sox being obliging hosts today.

If Lackey wins today and prevents the MFYs from winning the division, then he will have earned his salary this season.

(No not really, but thanks in part to him, I'll have a long offseason to try to delude myself into believing that.)

WIN CHIN!

My MFY fan brother-in-law would sooner play Twins in first round.
I would sooner MFYs don't win AL East.
Lackey could earn the .5 million (of 12.5) today, at least.
Go Sox.

I don't get the whole second-place-is-better-for-them argument. They're completely mortal on the road, and even if Minny bends over for them as they have in the past, they're looking at Texas or TB on the road.

I want the Sox to win in a 22 inning thriller today.

Since I slept through most of the game and only woke up for the eighth and ninth, I enjoyed the heck out of last night's game. To see those kiddies celebrating on the field was quite a kick. Therefore, I don't give a damn about the playoff implications for the Yankees. I want the Sox to WIN, today and always. I'm hoping to see Victor pinch-hitting and winning the game. Geaux Sox!

I love how Yanks' fans are all about how they actually don't want to win the Division, so they can avoid Cliff Lee and Co. in the ALDS, now that there is a good chance they won't win it. Kick ass kids, gimps, old men and the Chin - give them hell, and give them what they want. And to all such kids, gimps and old men who kept up the good fight against all odds this year, and are likely gone next year - thanks for the effort.

GO SOX - WIN IT!

I don't care who would rather play whom. Help the wanks end the regular season on a 2-game losing streak, with prayers that it soon becomes a 5-game streak.

Considering the salary they're paying this year, they're paying well over half a million a win. He could earn quite a bit more!

Here's hoping the Yankees' plane flies into a volcano. This way, the Sox are the replacement wild card team
and we don't have to worry about which awful manager will hand the Yankees a trip to the ALCS.

Win win. Oh, and win.

On a serious note, is there any chance this might be Ortiz's last game? I am not sure I would assume
he is coming back and, if so, I hope the fans give him a lot of love (just in case he leaves).

I figured they'd give the fans one more chance to cheer for him before negotiations. Give him warm fuzzies. He's a sensitive guy

Interesting considering the way the season started with Ortiz hitting like a corpse that he's one of the 2 regular starters present in the final game lineup. The other irony is Drew being there. With all the injuries taking most of the other starters he isn't one of the injured.

He comes in as a pinch-hitter to win the game in the ninth. The fans go wild. He decides Boston is Home. Happy Ending.

p.s. Thank you Drew.

It really REALLY sucks that we've been decimated by injuries and a completely worthless bullpen this season. This team has a ton of heart. I'm going to get mocked for saying this, but I'm really going to miss some of these guys.

Ready to be mocked. But I am taking the Pollyanna approach. The ones I care about (qualitative data analysis) will be back.
