The Sox have nothing left to play for except for pride and the opportunity to hurt the MFY's chances. It would appear that is insufficient motivation.
The Yankees winning the East might actually hurt their playoff chances. They'd have to face Cliff Lee twice in a 5 game series.

A few thoughts as I post for the last time in a game-thread this season (not that I do it very often, but I'm feeling sentimental tonight:)
A) Dice-K has been WAY overpaid by us. I say this as a resident but not a citizen of Japan. When his contract is up, I will buy mlb.tv. As of now, Sox games are shown somewhat regularly here in Japan, but I don't want to watch them when he pitches.
B) I don't want the season to end on a 5 game losing streak, even if it doesn't matter anymore.
C) Proud of this lineup (not THIS lineup, but the Sox lineup throughout the year.) They gutted out some tough wins and tough losses, but never gave up.
D) If Beltre and V-Mart are back next year, watch out AL East.

I think Theo has seen enough of Dice-K that he now realizes his value is much higher in trade than in pitching for us. I'd move him and sign Lilly to a 3/30 ish type deal.

The Sox should teach Dice-K to just drill the first batter. This would allow him to go deeper into games.
