While the Red Sox have been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, they still hold a commanding three-game lead over the other sock-themed baseball team. With a win tonight, the Red Sox will clinch their rightful spot as the top-socked team in baseball. Win.

Win because winning is better than losing.

I can't believe how close we are to the season being over. Feels like it just flew by this year.

A sad day today with nothing left to play for. It did go by fast, even the painful, nut punch moments. There will definitely be some time for reflection this winter. Fortunately, spring always brings new hope. That being said; play on and win!

I'm feeling a bit disoriented after elimination evening. Can someone explain this from the CNN/SI game preview:

"Watching the games on TV is going to feel weird," said David Ortiz , who appeared in six of the previous eight postseasons - seven of them for Boston.

Did they ask him whom he's rooting for?  :)  Or against?

I'll watch the Sox, of course, but it's going to be hard not to peak in at the Bush vs Dickey match-up in New York.

I still want to know how seven of his six post-season appearances are...?

Beltre scares off Nava and self. It's too late in the season to break another ribcage.

Gee, I'd much rather hear a "homer inning" than this boring travel crap. Also, seems appropriate in Hawk's home park.

Drew, Ellsbury, Cameron, Kalish, McDonald, Reddick - room for 5 next year, IMO.

I expect at least one of them to be part of a deal this winter. No particular opinion about which one or what deal.

Seems highly unlikely that Reddick will start the season with the big club.

What seems unlikely is that FREDDY GARCIA IS THROWING A NO-HITTER!

I'm thinking that after Nava blew the game-ending sliding catch attempt, Tito wants to get him back out on the field.

Also, Nava is a better hitter than Reddick against RHP at this point in the season. Reddick still looks overmatched at the plate to me.

It just seems like we know what we have in Nava. I really would have liked to have seen more Reddick over the past month, almost like they've done with Kalish.

Yeah, it's pretty clear that Nava isn't part of the future -- not good enough in the field or at bat. Reddick just doesn't seem to have learned the strike zone yet, but that hasn't stopped Tito from playing Lars Anderson.

Nava is a nice story that will make a good SoSH screen name someday. I agree with you about Reddick and the strike zone, but it's tough to get any feel for what his future may be if he sits on the bench. I just have no idea if he's a potential starting corner outfielder or a AAAA player.

And there's your first hit, followed in short order - hopefully - by a bushel of runs. Or, maybe just one.

This was my point. I'd rather see Reddick now - and probably for awhile now. You know, just to see what you have in him over a few weeks of consistent playing time.

So Papi is now sniffing a .270 average and .900 OPS to go with his 32 homers and 102 RBI.

That's really sort of hard to fathom.

Agreed. In terms of one of them being part of a deal, Nava brings back the least. Maybe they're trying to show him a little bit.
I don't know if they see Kalish and Reddick as future starters, but I doubt we'd see a future OF of Jacoby, Kalish, Reddick since they're all lefties. If one of those 3 is part of a deal this winter, what are the votes?
