Rudyard Kipling said that if you could fill the unforgiving minute with sixty seconds worth of distance run you'd be a man.

Beats the fuck out of being a Lugo.

Go Sox.

If we're gonna play another game, we may as well win.

To cross this Bridge of Death, we must answer these questions three

Can Lackey Pitch?
Can the kids hit?
Can the Yankees buckle?

We only need 3 wins (five sir) 5 wins and an epic Yankee failure.

Unlikely but fun to think about.

Lackey is fast running out of starts in which to make his dramatic late-season comeback to league average.

Kerry Wood? Unfortunately he was pretty much charcoal by the time he got traded, so he hasn't made fire as well since.

Hall was just saying that 2nd was his fave position. Guess Francona doesn't read the Globe. Are they playing this guy Lopez to make the draft-pick or whatever they are going to get for him less transparent?

The fact that he's hitting leadoff gets me more. Really? Eric-Replacement-Level-Player-Patterson? If your gonna experiment, I'd have tried Lowrie.

Not that I'd pick him to lead off, either, but remember how we used to complain that Ellsbury really wasn't that good playing CF last year? That was so quaint.

I am taping it upstairs while I watch Lackey transform himself into the pitcher of our dreams and the very clever and speedy E. Pat work a leadoff walk.

Figures seem to show Drew doesn't hit into more dps than anyone else. I hate numbers, as they completely contradict my memories.

In case anyone's curious:
Beltre-25
Martinez-17
Scutaro-13
Ortiz-11
Drew-10, so 11 now
Lowell-9, in 70 games

Repetition effect. They're all 4-6-3's on pitches on the outer half of the plate.

If memory is good, Lackey just used more pitches in the first than DM and Buchholz combined in the last two games.

I guess Beltre's double play numbers point out the similarity of his offensive style to a certain hard-swinging Red Sox outfielder of my 1980s childhood.
