Darnell, on the other hand, has been more than alright.

Maybe the Rays can get 20 runs today.
Remember when the Sox did that to TB all the time? I try to console myself with the fact that at least the Sox didn't sink to headhunting like the Rays always did.

At one point from 2005-2007 I saw 5 Wake starts in a row. All losses.Every time I go to a game, it's friggin' Wakefield.
I feel your pain.

My best friend has one of those 10 game packs you cant get anymore (he's grandfathered in so they still offer it to him yearly), one year, I think it may have been 2006... we seriously got Wakefield at like 7 out of the 10 games. At one point from 2005-2007 I saw 5 Wake starts in a row. All losses.
I feel your pain.
At least I got to see Dougie go deep.

Might be better than watching Dice-K at Oakland on Sunday. At least Wake works fast.Every time I go to a game, it's friggin' Wakefield.

There's a lot of prep time needed for a wake

In Memory of the 2010 Boston Red Sox
God saw you getting injured, and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you and whispered “come to me.” With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best. But never the fucking Yankees, even though Jeter and Rivera and Posada and Pettitte are a million years old. Assholes.

A great day for the Wakefield family...Tim starts hitting big incentives in his contract today. He gets $75,000 for making the start today. AND...if he pitches 3 1/3 innings he picks up another $500,000 today!!!! He needs to hit the 130 inning mark for that to kick in so...Timmy will be focused. Regardless of anything else, let Tim fool the Rays today just to make all of us feel a bit better. Mrs. Wakefield will be happy, why shouldn't we?
Tito will probably let him pitch 3-1/3 even if he gives up 10 by then. After all what's the harm?
Good for Tim though, all kidding aside. He's been a gamer for an awful long time.

Agreed.
I remember Gil Santos on WBZ talking about how Boston had 'caught lightning in a bottle' with Wakefield, that he was a wonderful human interest story, but that it was time for the Sox to face reality and move on.
I'm pretty sure that was during the 1996 season.
Good call, Gil.
Unrelated thought: how many victories over 200 would Wake be by now if he'd pitched more games to less offensively-challenged battery-mates?

Yes, and sadly with all the "What have you done for me lately" fair weather fans the guy gets next to no credit for always being helpful to charities and being constantly visible for any function thanking fans through the years. There aren't a lot of players with his track record in that regard. He seems to appreciate his success.

In a lot of ways your last sentence defines the players that I like to root for. Those with a sense of entitlement leave me pretty cold, no matter how much talent they have. Give me the guys that appreciate what they've got and where they are.
Like Darnell.

I feel your pain, but it could be worse. I made it to seven games last year and saw Brad Penny make four starts. The highlight was clearly the 7/29 mess where he had given up five runs before I could get to my seat.

Yes he wept because the Sox have a better record than the Rangers. There is no justice in this life, only in the next.

Color me shocked if Wake makes it to 3.1 innings to get his extra $500k.
I would be shocked if he doesn't. What I don't get is the whole Scutaro scenario. Why is he playing at all?

That didn't take long.
Is the streak over?
