Jordan Caron, RW
6'2", 205lbs

Kirk's write-up is really good on Jordan. I thought these points really encapsulated why I think he'll be good.

Superb hands; handles passes cleanly and can advance the puck up the ice, or protect it down low and on the cycle. Excellent shooter with an NHL-ready release. Shot is hard and heavy; he generates a lot of power and torque on it.

Solid feel for the game; has a knack for scoring and proved he can play an effective defense/checking role as evidenced by his performance with Team Canada at last year's World Jr. Championship tourney

The things that stand out the most for me when it comes to Jordan, are his physical stature, and his ability to play in both ends. He has a knack for banging the puck in the net, and has shown he has the hands to have success in the NHL. The biggest question marks with him are his foot speed and agility. Some folks think this is overblown, and while he's not a burner, he's still got average speed. I would bet he adds another 10-15 pounds over the next few years, and that makes him a very physically imposing player.

My bet is he starts out the season in Providence, but injuries, or Michael Ryder's mysterious cap clearing dissappearance, causes him to get the call. I think he's a less mean, less strong, but better offensive version of Lucic.

Feel free to post your thoughts on all things Jordan, and try to convince me how right I am, or how wrong I am on Jordan. I think he develops into a top 6 player, who will end up being very similar to Mike Knuble.

EDIT- I fucked up a table like eighty times. I've given up. All you need to know about Jordan is he scored 36 goals in 08-09, and after a mid-season trade this year, scored 17 goals in 23 games for Rouyn-Noranda, and was a combined +25 on the season. Add in the 7 goals and 18 points in the 11 games he played in the playoffs, and you have the makings of a solid future power forward for the Bruins.

This is what I know about Jordan Caron. He has been coached the last few years by Clem Jodoin until the trade to the Huskies at the mid-season trade period. Clem has coached guys from Mario Lemieux to David Perron and others like Jonathan Bernier and Alex Tanguay. What I think this translates to for Jordan is Clem I am sure has passed on the importance of positioning, playing the body and has taught Jordan a lot about the game. Clem is from the same mold as Claude Julien when it comes to defensive play from the whole team. Jordan may have the jump on a lot of the propects in this area and it may get him an early call up because he should not be in bad position with the big club.
When I had seen him play in the Q he always appeared to have gears for the Jr. game and I wondered how it would stack up with the big club. What I think is deceiving for Jordan is he is a big kid on the ice in Jr's and it may give the halucination that he is slower then what he is. He never seemed to be a bad teammate, even through the whole debacle of Patrice Cormier's elbow to Tam last season. Caron is definately someone to watch. His game can translate into bottom 3 lines in my opinion.

Video from the Development camp. My two favorite parts: Caron's blast in the beginning off the bar, and Seguin's snipe top cheese at the start of his highlight.

Jordan had a hat trick in the first of two rookie games against the Islanders last night. His simple and efficient game seemed to really pay off. His scouting report has always said he "just seems to score a lot" like "garbage goals" and goals "in close". Well, he showed it last night. The kid has a pro game, a pro body, and it looks like he might be the most ready to crack the lineup this year, and yes, that includes the highly skilled Tyler Seguin.

Well, he's in a battle with Brad Marchand for the last wing spot with Savard out. I have to think he has the advantage, given his size and intelligence on the ice. That, and was only one of a handful of players who was effective in both ends of the ice against Washington last Wednesday.

At this point, I expect him to start the season on Bergeron's wing.

Caron has really made a positive impression in his first 4 games. Like Milan Lucic, he came into the league with the rap of being a bad skater, but also like Lucic, he has worked hard on improving his skating AND he has a good sense of the game that allows him to play faster than he really is.

I love his 2 goals. The first one, he pounced on a rebound in front and scored - that's not just a matter of being willing to go to the front of the net, it is also a legitimate hockey skill. One goal doesn't prove anything, but it was an encouraging sign to see him score his first goal that way, that is for sure. Last night's goal came off a great feed from Bergeron and the shot Caron got off belongs in the hockey textbook under the heading "wrist shot". Absolute laser beam right under the crossbar, terrific shot. Less obvious, but also terrific, was Caron's hockey sense - Bergeron could not have hit him with that great feed if he wasn't there to receive it.

Given that Caron has also established himself as a fixture on the PK - despite sitting out one game he trails only Bergeron and Krejci among Bruin forwards in PK ice time - I can't see this kid being sent back to Providence when Savard and Sturm are back.

He was also planted squarely in front of Varlamov for Hunwick's wrister from the point on Tuesday. There's been a lot to like about Caron so far, and it's very promising that Claude is rolling with him and letting the recently re-signed Paille ride the pine.

Some high praise from Claude.

Without being asked, Julien offered after the game that "I think the guy I can't say enough of is Jordan Caron.'' He went on to single out Caron's smart play and his ability to complement Bergeron.

Caron accepts the praise, while acknowledging the added pressure."It's easier for me to know that Claude has a lot of confidence in me,'' he said. "He put me out there in a key moment. I think it's easier to adapt to those situations than staying on the bench wondering what's going to happen, wondering if you're going to go on.''

Well, Caron has not been the player I expected him to be in Providence. He's got two Assists in 6 games and is a -2.

Caron now has 5g and 6a in his last 14 games. If Savard is out, I wonder if a Caron call up is in the cards for the kid.

To rip off TFP's update idea.. Kirk's prospect roundup has Caron #1.

1. Jordan Caron, RW Providence Bruins (AHL) 6-2, 202Boston (NHL) GP 20 G 3 A 4 PTS 7 PIM 6

Providence (AHL) GP 22 G 5 A 8 PTS 13 PIM 12

Caron impressed with the big club after beginning the season in Boston but got off to a slow start offensively when sent to Providence. He’s been rounding into form much better over the past month

He's now at 7g and 11a in 32 games. It seems he lost a lot of his momentum he had established when he got called up. With Colborne out, he'll need to step his game up if Provy has any hope of going to the playoffs.

9g, 14a in 40 games for Caron.

Also looks like Providence season will be over shortly. I don't think there is anyway they make the AHL playoffs.

Final stats are:

12g, 16a, 47GP.

He added 5 points in his last 7 games to end the season. It was an up and down year for Jordan, but he finished well enough to be in the mix for a spot on the Bruins roster next season.

Jordan Caron is currently breaking out against Toronto right now. Or at least, having a career night.

He's been physically engaged all game, has created offense, and has demonstrated the ability he showed in Junior to finish in front of the "dirty areas" of the net. Solid, solid, solid play from him. He's been better the past two games, and looks, for lack of a better term, comfortable.

That's 3 goals and 5 points in five periods for Caron.
