Please vote only once. Sorry if your goal wasn't listed, but I took awhile to review the highlights.

edit: something went wrong with my first attempt to make this poll, if a mod wants to delete the other poll-less thread, that would be appreciated. Also, a link to the goals:

Vinho, that goal's from Euro 2008 right? It does look like Uruguay, though. I'm confused.

Seconded, as much for the way he narrowly beat the defenders in the build-up as the magnificent shot itself, done as he was falling backwards.

Spain has 3 or 4 goals that can be up on that list, which is a little SoAmer-centric IMHO.

Where's Gio's, too.

+1. Why is this not a choice?

I also liked Tshabalala's goal to open the tournament. And Forlan for luscious locks and dreamy eyes the goals against Ghana, Holland and Germany.

I didn't even notice that until you wrote it since I was searching for and not finding Villa's beauty.

Not to be a homer, but Donovan's heroic goal vs. Algeria has to be mine.

Gonzalo Higuain's (vs South Korea?) where it went off about three heads and his was the last who put it in.

I didn't think it was the best goal, but I thought it was in the top three, so I'm surprised Puyol's header versus Germany isn't on the list. That was an excellent goal in a humongous spot.

Same here. I wanted to vote for Landycakes, but Von Brockhurst's was the best goal that I saw.

Going with Maicon for degree of difficulty multiplier with von Bronkhorst a hair behind.

Gio, hands down.

Harkes described its location as "Up where the spiders hang out." I'd never heard that before.

Piling on: my vote is for GVB too.

Runner-up for me was Donovan from short range against Slovenia.

Latin announcers say it as "donde las araņas hacen sus nidos" which means "where the spiders make their webs". So if Harkes was trying to use that saying then, assuming you're quoting him verbatim, he kinda fucked it up.

Edit-I voted for Forlan's side-kick one-timer. The fact that he hit that off of a centering pass, as opposed to just a rebound, makes it one of the most impressive goals I've ever seen. For me, it's right up there with Maxi Rodriguez's goal against Mexico in the 2006 World Cup.

Agreed, the side-kick reminded me of this one from Zidane off Roberto Carlos' feed.

I voted for Gio's long range strike vs. Uruguay which barely edged out Forlan's side volley against ze Germans. It would take a goal like Gio's to beat out Forlan's exquisite shot, which required perfect timing and skill. I am glad that Forlan won the player of the tourney award because he sure as hell was the best player out there.

Donovan's goal vs. Slovenia was pretty awesome.

It wasn't anywhere near the most skilled goal, but the path of destruction left in the wake of Gelson Fernandes' goal against Spain made the penalty area look like Mr. Magoo just drove through it. It was awesome.

I voted other.

I wish there was a better quality of this video, but Fabio Quagliarella's goal against Paraguay is my pick. First off, to have the balls to perform a long range chip shot in the dying minutes of a game where you need 2 goals is incredible, but it was a perfectly placed chip. Upper 90, floated it over the keeper's hand.

I am biased because I would fuck chip shots if I could...but that was the sickest goal of the tournament.
