We're getting no hit by a guy with a 57 ERA+

Yep.

Wake, Buch, Lackey, Lester, Dicek.

Designed to give max rest to all pitchers according to Tito.

Why would he push Lester behind Lackey? I wonder if he's assuming he'll pitch an inning in the ASG.

I'm pretty sure that's the reasoning. Plus it gives him an extra day to rest from flying back and forth from LA and dealing with all the All Star stuff.

Girardi isn't going to play any of the Red Sox players in the All-Star Game. Haven't you heard?

Quite the contrary, he's going to try to get at least 3 innings out of Lester.

Dice nicely out of that jam. Now get some base runners please. Better results the 2nd time through the lineup we hope.

There's something strange about this being a year in which we're not competing with the MFY's. It's been a while.

They are 5 games out with 80 or so to play, 3 games back in the WC. How are they not competitive?

Not to mention we were a half game back all of what? 8 days ago? Maybe a few weeks from now the situation will be different, but this team is absolutely competing with the Yankees right now. And the bridge year stuff is a crock. Healthy this team is very, very good, quite possibly better than the last two years.

Theo called it a bridge year, where if things broke right we could still compete for the World Series while we transition away from the older players. I think it's pretty obvious that things haven't broken right.

And as several people have pointed out already, that's really not the case. The fact that they're still in the thick of things is incredible given the injuries, and has to give one a little bit of confidence in the team's chances if they can get some of the key pieces back from the DL before falling too far out of competition.

(edit: this was in response to sugarscape, but firefox is giving me the quoting posts problem)

There are a couple of players whose acts have gotten old. They could be gone.
