I think the Uruguayans win this. The Germans might not care very much, and for Uruguay winning third would be a major achievement, their best since 1950.

I think this is something to keep an eye on.
In '06, they were the home nation and gave the fans a final feel good moment; but now they might be dwelling on a missed opportunity to win the big one.

Klose is also dealing with a back injury. He definitely wants to play because it's his last world cup match, but a back injury isn't something you can just grit your teeth through.
With Suarez back, Uruguay having greater motivation, and the Germans dealing with the flu- I think the squid is finally wrong.

edit-man, Forlan was that close to an Olympic goal. If that went in . . .

And Ian Darke is REALLY upset about the booing of Suarez.
EDIT: This might be most entertaining half of the entire World Cup. Both teams are just counter attacking the shit out of each other.

Absolutely, without question. I think he has been the player of the tournament. But will they give the Golden Ball to a 4th place player?

the fifa just will abolish it.
tonight´s game has upstood tomorrow´s neocatenaccian snoozefest already. tonight´s game was a game of football, the way the founding fathers meant it to be.
i don´t care all that much about the 3rd place medal for my beloved german nationalmannschaft. but i will love them to death for tonight´s performance-
thanks a lot to jogy and our boys.
yours in love,
carl

Finishing 3rd is nothing to be ashamed of. All in all, Germany was the most enjoyable team to watch this World Cup.

Germany didn't deserve to play for the title, though. Spain earned that win about as fair and square as you can ask for.

I hope FIFA keeps the 3rd place game - both of these teams were pissed and disappointed and determined to just GO! It was entertaining, bullshit-free soccer. No diving. No excessive acting or time wasting. No wonkish traps. Up and down, shot after shot, chance after chance.

it was a gloryfied exhibition game. it was subject, once again (since fifa did lay down the law to its ref-brigasde, after the first round´s referereal atrocities), to a great ref, and 2 sides, who still did believe in football as a contact sport.
and football as a journey of 2 sides testing their mettles on the field of honour. playing the game. attacking and defending. to me 1 one of the greatest games of this tournament (which it would have been if my team had lost ist, regardless).
i´m still drunk and i´m still sad, and i´ve never loved a german team as much as this edition.
since my last title back in ´90 i´ve been subjected to 2 katastrophic squads in ´94 as well as in ´98, been witness to that aberration in ´02, did live through a defeat to an italian squad which was a spitting image to that of ´34; and this time i lost to the spanish neo-catenaccio.
first time in my lifetime (born ´67) my beloved germany are not the "panzerdeutschland" the world are used to see my team. we´re quite the better team towards the media´s darlings, the engerland, and the guardians darling the messi.
but we did not find a way to survive vs spain. and i´m still hurting from that. we didn´t score a single yellow vs the spanish pipi-kaka. so i guess we did deserve to lose. i´m still sad.
.................
tomorrow i´ll hope the spanish will bore the dutch to death. but i know that there are a couple of footballers (in the meaning of the word. footballers), on the dutch side, who will NOT lay down and die.
the dirtiest footballer in the world, mark van bommel, who seems to be sacrosant, who vs the uruguay could have bitten off the refs balls, whithout so much as a yellow.
it will be a boring game, and the dutch will win.
because the football gods are dirty old men, who love a good chuckle.
edit: i thought i had an errr. i still have, but i don´t care anymore

absolutely.
that´s why i´m not bitter about this tournament and our 3rd place finish. we were outplayed by a better spanish team. fair and square, as you rightfully say.
this was a happy world cup to me. the happiest since 1990, when we won it all. and this time we did play a way more beautiful football.
