I don't like the idea of calling that a "bad" call. If the player is offsides, it's by such a slim margin that it's permissable to me. That call can go either way and the player isn't really offsides in the spirit of the rule, imo.

The Uzbek ref gets a nod from me for helping make this a great game, play on playas get up divas. I wish that offsides would be called consistently and as tight on both sides of the field over the whole game though, but that wasn't on the ref.

Agreed, I especially liked how he refused to coddle the Dutch side's blatant time-wasting as the clock wound down, not ending the game promptly at 93:00, and when one of them bitched about it, he carded them. Classic and well-needed.

Exactly. The point of the offside law isn't to call back goals because an attacker has a toenail or a nose hair in an offside position. I'm perfectly happy to have the assistant refs let goals stand like Holland's second today. They're instructed to give the attacking team the benefit of the doubt in any case, so it's much more annoying when they err in favor of false-positive offside calls.
