Round of 16 - South Korea v. Uruguay

Uruguay sported clean sheets on all three matches so far. For the Red Devils it's been quite opposite, allowing a disappointing 6 goals in the qualifying round. Although I'll be rooting my heart out for the Korean squad, they're up for a tough, tough challenge.
In the end, not enough scoring chances and 1 or 2 critical defensive mistakes that the young defenders have been making throughout the tourney will mean the Korean squad will be the first one to go home in the round of 16.
To add fuel to the fire, manager Jeongmoo Heoh plans to put in Bumsoo Oh, who absolutely played terrible in the Argentina match to replace Duri Cha, who (despite the lazy mistake against Nigeria) can run with the wingers and being a former striker, can easily help the transition to feed the ball to the two Parks (Jisung and Chuyoung) upfront.
Prediction: 0-2 for Uruguay (sadly.)

HOLYFUCKINGSHITTHESEARETHEJOKES!!!
I can't get a good read on Uruguay...other than Forlan is awesome, and they couldn't do a lot against a tettering-on-the-brink-of-implosion France.

edit: All set, thanks. Also, Justin.tv is removing channels showing the game as fast as they pop up.

Story of this tournament. Manager Heoh should really look at what Okada has done with the Japanese squad, who came into the tourney at 0-1-4 and have turned it around with putting 5 back and countering aggressively.
Hitting the post early in the first half really, really hurts.

Looked to me that the goal was the keeper's fault, no?

Yeah, but the defenders can't leave the striker all by himslef like that. It was a colective fuck up.

While you're right, you're right in the sense similar to a catcher covering behind 1st on a routine throw to the 1st baseman. The keeper HAS to make that play.

I like both these teams, they don't really flop and they have very smooth flow. can't speak to positioning or anything else, but passes seem very on-target.
I think that's why Messi is so easy to like, too (at least for me) - he'll try his damndest to stay upright and complete a play rather than falling to the ground hoping for a call. The Uruguayans are hitting the turf, sure, but because they're challenging at full speed, and they get right back up.
Even if the Spanish are a better team overall, this game is a little more fun for me to watch.

I almost put this exact same metaphore on my post, only using the outfielders instead of the catcher.

His feet were past the line, but I think the ball was still outside.

Yeah, not completely over. Still, no idea what the keeper was thinking there.

If that was Jozy Altidore, (A) no one would be surprised and (B) we'd be calling for his head, or at least a substitution.

Donggook Lee has a history of whiffing.
Great effort in 2nd half. 1st half defensive gaffe does them in.

Korea only have themselves to blame. Played excellent football in the first 20 mins of the 2nd half, but the announcer got it right when he was talking about the breakdown in mentality after the goal. Had 2-3 point blank opportunities and Dempseyed them.
Off to buy grilling supplies and beer then heading to a buddy's for pregame. Probably going to Joshua Tree for the game (awesome crowd, hot chicks, nearby).

They looked spirited and pretty solid, really. Not much to be done about moments of genius like Suarez' shot.

That's a great spot, I used to live a block from Joshua Tree. But I'm at my beach house on Long Beach,(Long Island, not Jersey) so I'll be watching the game here and I am really looking forward to it.

Then again the rain may have impacted the shot as well

Villa beat like 3 guys and then took his shot while going down. It wasn't as well-placed as Suarez's ridiculous goal, but it was better overall I think.
