I know this is a game thread, but, assuming SydneySox was joking, this is the dumbest thing I've read in three weeks. Ireland was not able to score 2 goals in 210 minutes against a France side that has been a smoking crater for three years.

If anything, this world cup showed that Europe should have at least 2 spots (maybe 4) taken away from them and given to South America and Asia.

I think they'd have liked to make a push, but Brazil has been very adept at maintaining possession, they're just firing long balls to Ronaldo and running at lots of defenders, they probably missed their opening when Meireles missed the open net on that break

It's far from clear how the late group will play out, and the potential quarterfinal opponent is decidedly tougher for Brazil now (Netherlands) than Portugal (winner of Paraguay/Japan).

If you look all the way out to the semis, that's when Portugal's side becomes tougher, but that seems kind of silly.

Obviously, you hate underdogs or Cinderella stories. By the same idiotic logic, Ireland, Japan, Korea should all not be in the tourney and let the FIFA rankings decide who competes in the top 32.

ifmanis5, I never noticed anything but positive things about your posts but this one should be put to bed.

Edit. One more thing - FIFA rankings also reflect the number of international matches a country plays, as each win/draw is multiplied by various factors like importance of game, region, opposing team's rankings, etc. NK rarely plays friendlies, and that severely hampers their position. China may be ahead of NK right now in terms of quality but they failed to qualify - NK deserves to be in the tournament and played with a lot of heart, even if they were too short on skills.

And I would venture NK would have no problem playing Irish to a draw in at least half of the matches as they can't score shit, and even stealing a win now and then.

Is that so? Playing to a 2-1 to Brazil, surely a terrible 0-7 against Portugal (but there are reports the team didn't even fucking field rain cleats and were sliding all over the place in the 2nd half), then a 0-3 loss to the highly ranked CIV.

Are they possibly the worst team in the tourney? Possibly, but it's only a waste of time for lol-boo-hoo Irish rooters who's picking on the wrong team to continue to vent at the handball.

By the way, this same NK team played very, very well against the now respectable AFC with a 3-3-2 record in the WC qualifier, and beating out the Arab teams that literally pours tens of millions of $$$ into their teams.

I understand no one knew about this team before the WC unless you're into Asian football all season long, but you're really barking up the wrong tree.

If that's what you read, move on. Irish deserved to be in the tourney, but that has NOTHING to do with NK not deserving to be here. They qualified through a very competitive AFC qualifying round, and the FIFA ranking has nothing to do with it.

Well, I was right about my prediction of 0-3 and a double-digit GD against, but that was more about the group they were drawn into. At least North Korea had their moment in the tourney, getting a goal against Brazil.
