Edit: Would be nice if Ronaldo could bust out of his slump. He's setting up people left and right, though.

Players? None. Coaches? Well....
Let's see what they do against the Ivoirians.

i think humiliating a totalitarian police state is always a good thing, as will be taken as a humiliation of the Great Leader himself. love that this is the first game they've televised live and their fans get exposed to the smallest slice of reality -- better than nothing.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Oh I agree. Dear Leader must be very depressed at the moment. However, I did feel bad for the players. They just could not keep up with the Portuguese. Just too fast.

No shit - Portugal can do whatever they want, you can't fall for keep playing ball no matter what the score is. And PRK completely lost spirit after the 3rd goal and let a few dumb ones go in.
But still, I am looking forward to Portugal fall in the upcoming rounds against teams not ranked last in the tourney.
P.S. Yup - felt terrible for the players. They worked their asses off - against pressure none of us will really understand. But still, kudos for making it to the big stage, against all the oil-rich UAB, Saudis and the despicable Chinese team that literally put tens of million $ into their team.

Agree. It's not Portugal's job to stop pushing the ball. It's PRK's job to not suck up. At the same time, I'd be rooting for Brazil and CIV all the way the rest of the tourney.

And they are not done yet. They've got a game to redeem themselves.
You'd know more about this than I do, but I'm not sure getting the shit kicked out of them is such a PR disaster. What matters is what they do in the next game. I think North Koreans know that they are going to take some serious shots in the World Cup and on the world political stage. That's been happening for 60 years. But I should think a canny dictator wouldn't mind reminding them of that - it softens them for the kind of suffering that keeps him in power. And if they come back fighting and tie or maybe beat somebody, it sends the message, "life sucks. Take your lumps and treasure the small victories. Someday the big ones will come."
As a capitalist Westerner, I find that PRK's status as a rogue state makes them so much more interesting to watch. Their style of soccer, if it came from France or someplace, would not be that exciting. But there is a weird, almost kinky appeal to seeing the communist ethic redeemed in little ways.

With an appearance by Red!
Anybody think this ends less than 10 v 10? A bit light for a red.

A bit? That was ridiculous. That was almost a bigger flop than the one that got Kaka sent off last night. And this was a direct red. A yellow would have been plenty.
This guy is calling this very tight.

this is farcical. they destroy the game.

The fact the rout came at the expense of North Korea, all the better.

I wish I wasnt having to agree with this statement but the refereeing is this world cup is looking overmatched and much more like they want to be the stars of the game.
This CHIvSUI game is going to get out of control fairly quickly even after the recent spate of yellows issued.
Nice dive by the SUI player to draw another yellow though

I guess my sarcasm meter must have been turned down too much. At most that was a foul.

Or maybe my detector was off. Either way, I think we can agree that this ref is a douche.

And they gave away 3 or 4 golden opportunities in this one. They're really lucky the Swiss missed their chance at around 45'.
But the big story here is 9 yellows and 1 red. This ref deserves repeated kicks in the nuts.

Yup, that was ridiculous.
I think Chile are going to be without two starting midfielders (Carmona and Fernandez) against Spain due to each having received two yellows.

He's better than Iniesta and Xavi. The only explanation is that he is still injured and out of form.
