The German coaches are dressed up as The Kingsmen for some reason. Discuss.

So true. Joachim Low looks like he's going to be meeting up with Ralph Malph and Potsie for some malteds after today's game.

On an unrelated note, time to get fired up for the USA...

How in hell did the ref from last night's NBA Finals make it to South Africa in time to hand out 4 yellow cards in the first 20 minutes of this match?!

I was just saying how this official could have been a perfect fit for last night's contest.

I hate all officials everywhere and will forever.

Klose gets his 2nd yellow and sent off in the 37th minute.

Announcers KILLING the ref for being an over-officious jerk.

This is going to end up as a 7 v 7 training ground drill. Serbia are absolutely going to get a man sent off as well.

Though now they've scored, so they probably won't care--they converted the power play.

It's like some FIFA official told the ref "these sides hate each other, have for centuries. don't let anyone do anything".

And Serbia cashes in.

Germany is getting fucked, hard, by this referee.

If Serbia can hold on for a win here, it could really change the complexion of not only Group D (Germany, Ghana, Serbia, Australia), but whether Group C (USA, England, Algeria, Slovenia) nations want to be the 1st or 2nd seed.

Of course, this could be much ado about nothing.

It's a testament to how good the German team is that they look so dangerous with only 10 men on the field.

WHAT THE FUCK!! That wasn't even a foul. And the ref looked like he was ready to pull out the yellow until he realized that it would have meant sending off Lahm as well.

The tentative way the Germans have to make tackles is making the ref's impact on this game quite clear.

Still Findley though. Perhaps Torres will feed him on some nice runs where he doesn't have to get around a defender.

Dempsey injures a Slovenian 15 seconds into the game with a stray elbow on a 50-50 type header.

Howard didn't even move. Flat feet the whole way. Awful defense across the board, you can't let them line up a shot like that uncontested.

So as a hockey fan who watches about an hour of soccer a year and casually watches the world cup I have a silly question. Why did the defender totally duck out of the way of the ball rather than trying to block it, even with his head? It's the freaking world cup, don't you have to go all out there?
Feel free to mock and criticize, I'll freely admit I know nothing about the game. Though I was able to teach a life long Italian fan about the 2 guys behind the ball counting the goalie (keeper?) for an offside call after the goal that was waved off for (someone??) last week. So I got that going for me.

Not technically true. If the US loses and England wins, Team USA could still advance. The US would just need Slovenia to beat England as well and take care of Algeria with a better goal differential.
