I mean, it occurred to me this afternoon that it's in the realm of possibility that the Celtics win game 7 convincingly. L.A. is not exactly the kind of team that overcomes adversity very well. Hang close in the 1st half, (Gasol frustration germinates) build a 5 point lead after 3 (Fisher starts taking ill-advised shots) and go on a nice 12-4 run to start the 4th (towel spotted draping over Walton's head) might be enough to start the proverbial snowball down the hill.

I can see this happening.

But either way, Phil Jackson can go fuck himself.

It reported this week that Phil Jackson was in line for a $2-million bonus should the Lakers win the title. On Wednesday, Jackson acknowledged the bonus, but said he would donate it to charity.

"This is something I will do with the bonus as I feel fit, which is to fund some of the charities that I consider to be very necessary in my life," Jackson said. "That's one of the things I made a promise to myself about."

Well, now we KNOW the refs will fix the game because the NBA is Where Caring Happens and the Commish can't let a $2 million gift to charity disappear over a little thing called fairness. Doc should come out and say he's donating $3 million to charity if they win. Even if he doesn't (and who will really check?), it'll sound good and counter P-Jax's not-so-subtle attempt to influence the hearts and minds the league office and officials for Game 7.

The man is scared of his perfect record ending. This smacks of desperation. Get it done, guys.

In times like these, one must look to the '80s montage.

In Over the Top, did Sly sit around crying about injured centers? No, he rocked out to an uplifting cheese-fest from Sammy Hagar and took care of business. Winner takes it all.

Haven't had this much juice flowing since 10/20/04. The C's won the first game of the NBA season over LeBron, and will win the last against Kobe. Don't bet against the Celtics on the 17th.

When the Lakers win the championship, the USC marching band will play "Happy Days are Here Again", the balloons in the rafters will fall down, and Doris Burke will interview Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, and Derek Fisher in that order.

Thinking about this game is making me feel sick already. 14 hours to go.

As smastroyin already said, I have no fucking idea what to expect out of this team. They've been an absolute enigma all year long, and going in to the biggest game of the season I have no idea if they'll shit the bed for a second night in a row, blow the Lakers out of the building, or have it all come down to the final minutes.

Whatever happens, if you told me 2 months ago that the Celtics got to game 7 of the Finals, I'd have never believed you. Nor can I really look at this season as something other than an amazing success. These guys showed us a lot over the last 2 months, and really to me everything since beating Lebron's ass in has been gravy.

That said, there's no fucking reason why they can't win tonight. GET IT DONE.

I hate Kobe almost as much as I love the Celtics. Fuck him, fuck him, fuck him.

I have some faith in the boys tonight. PP, Garnett, Ray - shit, I'll take their intensity + badassery over Kobe's talent + douchebaggery any day of the week and twice on Sunday AND Monday. Fuck him one last time. Sew up the title, gentlemen. SEW IT UP.

Gasol makes me not even hate Kobe.

Kobe is probably a horrible person, but whatever. His marketing people have cleaned him up and now his off the court images are stupid white outfits and lots of time with his daughters. But on the floor, he is just good, he whines and all but he's just good.

Gasol, on the other hand, may be citizen number 1 off the court, but on the court he is a dirty scraggly piece of shit who throws his body around and has somehow fooled all of the refs into thinking that contact he initiates is a foul on the defensive player. I fucking hate him and his stupid dirty face. I wish him a sucking chest wound and the loss of his soul. I guess it is a testament to him being better, but I have an unholy rage about this guy. I don't really understand why. Probably because he is such an ugly mother fucker and he wears that uniform I hate. Actually I have placed it. He is like Anderson Verajeo except he also has skills and plays for my second least favorite team in sports. Fucking scraggly piece of crap.

Also, it has been said before, but if there is one man in an NBA front office whose fingernails I could pull out slowly, it would be Chris Wallace. Thanks for being such an incompetent douchebag and fucking the Celtics right good for so many years and then helping their biggest rival in your next job. Fuck you, you fuck.

Now, Celtics. Let's turn my anger to laughter. Rajon - bring the energy and the confidence without forcing it. You can't stand still when you don't have the ball. KG - Rasheed is going to space that floor a little bit, you are going to have to be ready to own the low post. There will be less double teams. Rasheed - don't be a fool. Ray - hit your shots. And Paul. Paul Paul Paul. You are the man tonight. People will disagree but the only way to counter what the Lakers are doing in the halfcourt is for you to handle the ball more and to be smart about it. (well the other way would be to play a lot more Nate, but let's ignore that). If you can get a little give and go game going with Rondo it will completely fuck the defense that the Lakers are playing. Change the game, but do it without dominating the ball. And remember that Artest is cooked. Shrek, we need you tonight. Show up.

I was born in the late '70's and grew up in the 1980's. My first sports memories were of the Celtics stomping the Lakers in the '84 Finals, Game 7. After watching the C's win again in 1986, I thought the Celtics would go on winning championships every other year of my life. I was wrong.

Enjoy this game tonight. A game 7 NBA Finals between the Lakers and Celtics may not happen again for a long time. And I say while we are here, let's beat these guys. We've come this far, we might as well finish them off!

PP, KG, Ray, Rondo, Baby, Sheed and the rest will leave it all on the court tonight. This one is for the ages. Win it! Win it!

GO CELTICS! BEAT LA!

From what I've read, this is a very lax group of officials who should let the players play. As was mentioned above, Joey Crawford is also a guy who doesn't really give a shit about the home fans getting on him.

If it holds true, excellent job by Stern letting the players determine this series. I hope for our sake, it does.

Joe Crawford with 3 games in the finals (previously 1 and 5). I dont recall ever seeing that happen in the NBA Finals. He is not afraid of making a call against the home team.

Scott Foster is supposedly very unfriendly to home teams per a previous link to covers.com. Dan Crawford isnt very home friendly either.

Playoff results with each official:
Dan Crawford (2-0) on the road Cleveland (G2), Orlando (G1), 0-1 at home Lakers G3
Celtics 2-1 with Foster all at home, the only loss was G4 vs Orlando (OT loss)
Joe Crawford 2-2 Cleve G5 (W), Orlando G5 (L), LA G1 (L), LA G5 (W)

If the Celtics play their game they will win. This is about as favorable an environment as they could possibly expect.

I've stated that I don't care who officiates, but seeing those 3 names makes me feel pretty good. Establish early that there will be no easy points in the paint without Perk in there. A couple hard fouls to Gasol et al. can't hurt.

Keys to the Game:

1) Get out to a fast start. Both teams will be hyped up so be the team who channels that emotion into playing well early.

1) HIT THE BOARDS HARD. We need 4 guys hitting the offensive and defensive glass tonight with 1 guy back. Rebounding was probably the key difference in Game 6 so correct that.

2) Establish a physical game early. Force our will onto them and let them know points will not be easy in the paint.

3) Push the tempo. Rondo needs to assert himself early in the game against Fisher by running and making smart passes. We don't need any hero laser passes tonight.

4) Use Pierce and KG in the screen-and-roll a lot tonight. This is key for 2 reasons. One is that it should take Gasol out of the paint which if Pierce decides to keep it then the lane is open. If Gasol lays off of KG and allows him to hit the open 18 footer then that's good for us as well.

5) Leave it all on the floor tonight. No one thinks we can win this game so play the "us against the world" card.

Well, if he wants to make money, he'd be betting on the Celtics to beat the spread...and then seeing that they do so he can collect his winnings, likely more than he'd make taking the Lakers to cover based on the odds. But I don't think he's in a hurry to expose himself to a possible deeper probe from the FBI and is likely playing nicer these days to avoid their attention. I'm sure he's well aware of the questions surrounding his continued employment by the NBA and doesn't want them to get any louder.

Is this the NBA's way of leveling the playing field and letting the best team win? Stranger things have happened, I suppose...

Kobe has enough rings for now. Let the old lions have their day one last time.

And fuck Gasol.

tonite is the night to stamp CELTIC PRIDE forever on the Staples Center floor

tonite is the night another great chapter is written in Celtic History

to do this, all that is needed is a dedicated effort for 48 minutes utilizing every ounce of intelligence, energy, skill, brains, and basketball experience a veteran team has accumulated.

all that and maybe a few calls.

But in the end all that we as fans ask for is:
