Two years ago today, the Celtics played the Lakers in Game 5 of the 2008 NBA Finals. They had a chance to clinch their 17th NBA Championship on the Staples Center floor. They didn't get the job done and eventually clinched two days later in Boston.

The Celtics are in the same position right now, but tonight will be different.

Tonight, the Celtics will win on that Staples Center floor and become champions...

again.

The Lakers have lost more Finals games than anyone in the NBA. They know how to lose in the finals, alright? They're just showing us that right now.

I would like to add that Boston has clinched the title against the Lakers in all of their previous home arenas (The Forum and Los Angeles Arena, and even the old Minneapolis Auditorium)...so its time to break in the Staples Center's Celtics virginity. Do it tonight.

Smoke 'em if ya got 'em. Cigar lit courtesy of Phil Jackson's Game 5 bashing of Celts ability to close out in the fourth quarter. D. Wade, King James and Dwight Howard aren't buying it either! What an ass clown.

KG in the press conference tonight (hopefully):

"Well, I'm sure Phil noticed that we didn't blow the lead in the fourth quarter tonight."

59 days ago we were getting our doors blown off by Miami in Game 1. We've come a long way, baby. What a magical two months it's been.

Let's dance on their floor for the first time since, as Bryan Adams would say, the Summer of '69.

Even better if the Celtics make a 4th quarter comeback.

"I guess these Lakers know well enough how to lose a game, huh?"

Luck the Fakers.

Jesus, that was two months ago? The playoffs are no joke, let's hope the Celts can close it out tonight and not have to worry about a Game 7. I am and have always been a ref conspiracy theorist, however, and I think this game will be called heavily in favor of the Lakers. Let's hope Bynum's knee is still the equalizer.

"Magical" is the word. If we pull this off, it will go down as one of the greatest championships in franchise history.

Since the playoffs started, they've been a team on a mission. They finish it off tonight.

I've got that feeling too. I think Ray jumps right back into the MVP discussion tonight.

Ray usually has huge games when he gets a little good news about his son. Sounds like Walker is going to be just fine.

MCutchen is 6th in fouls per game, but he has called them relatively evenly for home/road teams. Seems to just call tight.

DeRosa is 67th and Maur is 75th(of 77!). Both slighly favor the home team, but not terribly. All 3 are middle of the pack for home win%. They will have to work for it(duh), but I think the C's can win this game.

I go on vacation thursday, so I would really like them to win this game, as I won't be able to watch game 7.(Never expected the C's to be in the finals when we booked it; smile.gif - I'll take it though. )

Interesting stat I just saw on ESPN.com (it was from a sidebar, no direct link):

QUOTE
Kobe Bryant's 34.4 field goal percentage in NBA Finals elimination games is the 3rd-lowest by a player with at least 50 attempts in such games in the shot clock era (since 1954-55), among the 38 players that qualify.

I simply cannot believe that as recently as 1986 they would allow fans to rush the court as cops stood idly by. When people say that times were more innocent, I feel like that's the kind of stuff they're talking about.

Or, look at Ike during his campaign:

In any event, the only place people will be rushing tonight is the exits at the Staples Center, hoping to be out of earshot when KG lets another primal scream out and Nate possibly spontaneously combusts out of excitement.

2/3 were the refs in game 2's 56 foul fest, and the other oversaw game one. That amount of fouls clearly favors the lakers. That's why it's important to come out and set the tone.
