Do you think Cole Hamels, Jon Lester and Josh Beckett have a secret bet to see who can suck the hardest every April? I do.

Marlon Byrd just made a ridiculous catch in CF. He basically caught the ball behind his back, eyes closed, and on one knee.

In other news, Trevor Hoffman is terrible. He's already blown 4 saves this year. Seems like he still managed to get the job done last year, more or less, but the wheels are certainly falling off in a hurry right now.

Nats Win!

Octavio Dotel says, "Right back at ya, buddy."

Worth noting:

Matt Capps, whom the Pirates cut in the offseason: 13.1 IP, 1 ER, 1 HR allowed, 6 BB, 14 K, league leading 10 saves
Octavio Dotel, whom the Pirates signed in Capps' stead: 9.1 IP, 11 ER, 3 HR allowed, 5 BB, 12 K, three saves and a blown save today.

Cole Hammels has got to be the biggest disappointment for the Phils so far this season. The guy is just...eh.

Bochey brings in Brian Wilson in the 9th (up 4-1) after Lincecum walks the leadoff batter. Wilson gives up a single and a walk, and now the bases are loaded for Jayson Werth with 2 outs. Giants fans NOT happy with Bochey's decision.

Also, can we talk about Brian Wilson? Tight pants like it's the 80's and some sort of mohawk/tail thing happening. Yuck.

AND UNBELIEVABLY, Werth hits a bloop double that almost hits the chalk in right field and scores ALL 3 to TIE the game!!! HOLY CRAP.

Castro pops out - going to extras. Bochey needs to hide somewhere or he may be beaten up by a fan.

Lincecum was only at 106 pitches after walking Victorino, by no means a danger zone for him, so I do think that Bochy was a little aggressive in pulling him.

That said, with a three-run lead, that's pretty much on Wilson. And even then, you have to factor in the immensely shitty luck of a pop-up to RF just hitting the chalk line out of Schierholtz's reach.

Phillies score the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th on a wild pitch by Jeremy Affeldt on a swinging strike by Placido Polanco. What a deep-dicking of a day by the Giants.

Affeldt throws three curveballs to Ryan Howard for a three-pitch strikeout.

$25 million looking good right now.

Lincecum was frigging cruising, anybody who is not strictly trying to manage by rote leaves him in the game.

Bochy succumbed to his pacifier of having to use his closer and it bit him in the ass. It's a bad move even if Wilson is successful, which he wasn't.

Not to bring emotobabble into this but as soon as he took him out I thought this might blow up.

He did, off Lincecum no less.

But when you can bring in any LH'ed reliever and make Howard look like a Little Leaguer, he'd better have an OPS of 1.500 or better against RHP to make up for it.

You'll only hear about the homer and double off of Lincecum in tomorrow's papers and on talk radio.

I hope they can't sign Werth b/c of Howard's contract. I'd like him to be a Red Sox, please. Use Reddick or Kalish for New Papi.

Edit: As I type, a not so great defensive play by Howard puts Sheurholz (sp?) on 2nd with no one out and the fastest man on the team at bat.

How old is Eugenio Velez, 17?

Kudos to MLB.tv, meanwhile, for repeatedly missing the first batter of the inning during this Phillies-Giants game.

emotobabble

My new favorite word.

I had a similar feeling - give me Lincecum at 100 + pitches and cruising over ANYONE ELSE NOT NAMED MARIANO RIVERA.

Edit: especially with a 3 run lead at home. Come on.

Chase Utley botches the swipe tag on Andres Torres' stolen base attempt. Would've been an easy out if he'd laid the glove down.

Did the Mets and Phillies swap things up before the season started?
