When has BB taken a rush end in the first round? I can see him taking a LB in the 2nd and going for BPOTB at #22. Now, if Odrich and Bryant are there then you might have to think about it.

When has BB taken a WR in the first round?

Wait.

ESPN only became unwatchable since Sports Science? Are you on drugs? There's eleventy badillion other things to hate about ESPN, and SS is the reason?

I actually really like ESPN for the most part. I have it on for about 90% of the time when I'm at home, and it's generally very enjoyable for me.

Sports Science is really annoying though. Insofar as it's still total nonsense, but dressed up as "science" or whatever. If you're gonna give me garbage analysis, then don't dress it up. Just have Herm tell me some nonsense.

Tebow going as high as 15?

http://profootballta...here-hes-going/

In answer to Bowiac's question, it's not just Chad -- add Bethel Johnson.

Last 20 years, Patriot WR's drafted in the 3rd Round or higher (Name/Year Drafted/Round):
  • Greg McMurtry/1990/3
  • Vincent Brisby/1993/2
  • Kevin Lee/1994/2
  • Terry Glenn/1996/1
  • Tony Simmons/1998/2
  • Deion Branch/2002/2
  • Bethel Johnson/2003/2
  • Chad Jackson/2006/2
  • Brandon Tate/2009/3

Doesn't even include the immortal Hart Lee Dykes!

Belichick HCNE era a little shaky...

For the third year in a row, I am giddy that it is time to once again post this video:

Possibly my favorite YouTube video ever, with my favorite exchange being from 1989:

Rozelle: "New York Jets, first round choice... fullback..."

Fan: "OOOHHHHH NOOOOOOOOO"

Rozelle: "Roger Vick, Texas A&M."

Chris Berman: "Ohh..."

For some reason I'm pretty geeked about this draft weekend. Large quantities of beverage, Buffalo Wild Wings, good friends, and my wife's homemade razzleberry pie (going in the oven in an hour or so)...

Does this make me a horrible person?

Dynomite, that is absolutely lovely. I heart you.

Thanks.

For Patriots fans, the best follow for the draft is: @realpatriots

Last year, they were announcing the Pats picks and trades before the TV broadcast.

I'm pumped too, prepping some buffalo chicken dip right now. Got a Bills fan here who is scared to death and yelling "Fuck Tebow" every 15 minutes.

I'm far less concerned about who exactly the Pats are going to pick than in years past. Read up on all the players, like who I like, know the positions I want, but no matter who we draft I know tomorrow we will be in love with the scouting reports, reading about the player's love the game, ect, ect. Can not wait.

I have a difficult time believing Washington will trade up for Bradford or draft Berry at #4. I'm hoping they take Okung or trade down in order to pick up a 2nd or 3rd round pick. They have to address the offensive line.

Just got a text from my source. Things could definitely change between now and when they pick, but thinks the Pats are going to take Pouncey or McCourty with their first pick.

Edit: original post said McCourtney. It's McCourty, the CB from Rutgers.

From a scouting report on McCourtney:

This is anathema to a Pats fan who has watched tall wide receivers wreak havoc on the defense for the past five years. But in Bill we trust, I suppose.

I don't think there is much of a chance Pouncey lasts that long. Rumor has him possibly going as high as the Broncos and doubt he'd get past the Steelers.

I have no idea what they're going to do, but do people want them drafting for need? I think they have enough needs that I'd like to see them go best player available. The only position that would be a major disapointment would be QB, which they obviously wouldn't take in the first.

I agree, he'll probably be gone, just passing along what I hear.

I think we could see a couple of really interesting names available at 22 that no one expects. After the first 8-10 picks, we could see a lot of picks that people didn't see coming.

I agree. They have more pressing needs than high picks, so they're better off trading down or going BPA.

It's not like having another CB would hurt, especially since Springs wasn't very good last year.

We're allowed to take OLB/DE in the second round right?

To me, the only great fit at this spot at 22 in terms of value and suitability to the 3-4 is Jerry Hughes.

EDIT - I have a bit of a thing for Ryan Matthews at the moment.

Cromartie: 6'2". Champ Bailey: 6.0". Leigh Bodden: 6'1". Ike Taylor: 6'2". McCourty: somewhere between 5'10" and 5'11", depending on source. He's not a giant at that height.

I don't want them to draft crap based purely on need, and never hinted I did, so that's a red herring, but all indications are that there will be significant talent to fill other priorities. As it is, they have Bodden, Butler, Wheatley, Wilhite, Springs at CB. I'm sure additional talent would be nice, but in preference to other areas?

Wheatley, Wilhite, and Spring are arguably not that good. Simply having guys at those spots isn't going to convince me it's not as much a'need' as DL or OL or RB or OLB/DE.

Personally, I don't see a lot of difference in the players from 20 or so through 50, so I'd almost prefer they trade down if they miss out on Jerry Hughes (who might be a cut above comparable talents at 22).

EDIT - Note: I'm not sure I ever said you wanted them to draft based purely on need?

Darrelle Revis 5'11''
Antoine Winfield 5' 9''
Asante Samuel 5' 10''

Would they be tall enough for you? Height is nice but I'll take the guy that can cover, has great change of direction, can tackle a bit and high point the ball over a couple inches.

This just doesn't make sense to me. The Browns are so devoid of talent that even if Bradford is as good as they think, they wouldn't be able to surround him with enough talent to optimize his skills.

gammoserditor posed it as a rhetorical question, suggesting that anyone unhappy with McCourty or Pouncey was pushing draft for need. My post was triggered by his comment that you agreed with.

Anyway, Wheatley has been in Purgatory, so it's hard to see what he might do. Wilhite wasn't great, and sure they could stand some improvement, but the OLB/DE situation and lack of pressure is pretty dire, and if there's similar quality available at 22, I think we should go there. If it's a drop-off in quality - pretty big 'if' based on some of the speculation - then sure, go to Plan B.

One thing to take into consideration is the depth of the DE/OLB group compared to the secondary group. If the Pats feel secondary is an area of need it might make sense to grab that first since the DE/OLB group is so deep you might be able to get close to the same player in the 2nd as you would in the 1st compared to CB where you are probably looking at a significant drop off between the players available.
