Sorry, but: eff the Oscars.

I can do without self-congratulatory, banal circle jerking. The Academy has absolutely zero credibility, and it's more than a little sad that people hold it as the kingmaker of movies, directors, and actors/actresses.

The Barbara Walters interview with Mo'Nique is priceless television.

The look on Barbara's face as Mo'Nique talked about her open marriage and her reasoning for never shaving her legs cannot be described. Walters looked both horrified and excited.

I live in New York and have Cablevision. Due to a little spat with ABC over fees, Cablevision has pulled ABC from the channel lineup. So I will not be watching the Oscars tonight.

I will be really upset if this lasts until Tuesday night and I can't watch LOST.

You can still watch anything as long as you have a computer + the internet.

I just came here to post this you beat me.

She used to be pretty cite. He left his wife The Linda terminator chick, for Susie Amis. I was stunned to see her, she looks like she has cancer, or anorexia.

Please, you live with James Cameron micro-managing every aspect of your life, you'd look like that too after about 2 weeks.

Lurker here, so excuse if this was already debated to death in P&G:

Am I the only person who thinks 10 nominees for Best Picture is just way too many? Even under the pretense that it opens up the fields and gives chances to movies that might otherwise be passed over, etc., but doesn't it also dilute the voting? If you want more broad representatives, set a limit on the number of dramas, period pieces, biographies, animated films, epics, etc. can be nominated. Why have 10 for just one category is beyond me....

Either way, I barely made it out to the movies this past year and don't watch my Netflix as fast as I should, so I don't have any real dogs in this fight, but that just struck me as odd. Again, forgive me if it's already been debated en masse.

P.S. I didn't see it, but is it pretty much a given that Up in the Air is going to win Best Picture? Even with the 10 nominee field? That's the vibe I've had....

I wish you were right, but it seems like a given that Avatar is going to win BP.

And yes, 10 is wayyyy too many, even in this diluted field.

I think 10 is too many. But, the preferential voting system being used this year will pretty much ensure that the voting is not diluted. As the movie in last place is eliminated, all those 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc place votes get redistributed. Will continue until one movie has over 51%.

Do all the old, white, cranky entertainment writers and radio hosts also complain that the Oscars will end around midnight on a Sunday for no reason other than to milk the money cow? How can he movies grow their young fan base this way?

Interesting...a bit convoluted, but I guess it does somewhat avoid dilution. Avatar, Inglourious Basterds, and Disctrict 9 are the only ones of the bunch I've seen and, of the three, Avatar was probably the movie the Oscars would like the most, so I'm not surprised if that's the favorite. Then again, the Academy loves George Clooney. Guess we'll see. Weak field this year to be sure, though.
