No need for spoiler tags here.

I'm still pissed that the Koreans missed the sweep in Short Track - Men's 1500 m and gave Ohno the silver. Ugh.

Medal events (all times are PST):
11:15 - Biathlon - Men's 10 km Sprint
13:00 - Speed Skating - Ladies' 3000 m
13:45 - Nordic Combined - Individual NH/10 km CC - 10 km
15:10 - Luge - Men's Singles Run 4
17:30 - Freestyle Skiing - Men's Moguls Final

This is the game thread for the Olympic Games, correct? Not the TV Show on channel 7?

Oh, and can you add the non-finals, too? I'm sure there's figure skating and butch hockey scheduled as well smile.gif

Seriously, no more multiple game threads, this is beyond retarded. ... And equally retarded, why can't I find a single video of the medal ceremonies online? They won't show them on TV until 1 a.m. and they won't show them online period.

Fine with me. But 116 replies in the nbc thread vs 4 in the other one pretty makes it pretty clear that the vast vast majority of people are watching this on nbc. Which means people should use spoiler tags. It really isn't that hard.

While I agree with you on using the spoiler tags, I think the events ended up being live on NBC. No one was posting in the other thread, so I think the NBC thread ended up being the live thread. Just a thought, boss.

Perhaps not hard, but beyond retarded.

Why the fuck would you participate in a game thread if you don't watch it live? If I want to watch Red Sox / Bruins in 2 at a more convenient time, I'm not going to bitch and moan in a game thread, am I?

Anyway, the one event I'll probably be watching today is the 3000M for the women. Probably going to be Sablikova and Beckert 1 and 2, with a Canadian taking the bronze (Klassen, again?), but I'm hoping Wust can pull off a bit of an upset. I don't think retiring Groenewold will play a significant part today.

Loving the shit out of the biathlon. Is there a more exciting event in the Olympics? I think not. There's tension with every shot fired, they have to pace themselves for the skiing portion until the very end where they go all out. Just great drama.

I'm stuck with NBC. That's as live as I can get. If you want a LIVE live game thread, maybe you should find message boards specific to each sport, where fans will undoubtedly be getting quick hits from events not being televised live on NBC. I'm a year-round gymnastics fan and I don't come to SoSH to discuss gym during the summer Olympics. I want different coverage, I go to a different board. Not hard.

Funny watching the chick hockey. It's like playing those EA NHL games at the lowest difficulty setting. No one's all that impressive, but the USA/China game is a complete mismatch. It's 6-0 early in the second period, shots are 21-1 in favor of the big chicks.

They really shouldn't have non-competitive teams like this, at least at the Olympic level. Canada beat some poor team 18-0 last night. That team had beaten someone else 82-0 during qualifying.

They just said only 166 women are registered to play hockey in all of China and the coach doesn't speak Chinese. Weird.

Now 7-0 just as I post. Why do they even bother celebrating after a goal? It's not as if they've done anything they can't do against a group of 10-year olds.

I'm guessing the whole scoring a goal for your country in the olympics thing has alot to do with it. Agreed that there really isn't much point to China fielding a team tho.

The 8th goal by Lamoureux was pretty fucking sweet...

During intermission they were showing the Canadian fans cheering the Slovakian team, and the Slovakian team raising their sticks to the crowd, and it was all feel-goody... but how many of those fans do you think knew that those same Slovakian girls totally embarrassed an opponent in qualifying? I mean, 82-0 simply is not justifiable. I don't care if nobody was there to see that game, 82-0 is cruel.

There's video of that game on Youtube, and it's generally really pathetic. The Slovakians are all hogging the puck, hunting for goals. There is a sweet fight in this video, though:

Valkenburg with the top time on the 3000M, but the favourites are yet to come.

I can't believe Jay won the gold. Also, I can't believe the organisation charges fans extra money for the medal ceremonies.

Hughes can't do it, now it's up to Beckert to get to Sablikova's fantastic time. Speaking of Sablikova, her corners are just that much better than the others'. Making them longer and generating more speed.

EDIT: With one more to go, the podium looks like it was predicted: 1. Sablikova, 2. Beckert, 3. Canadian.

2) The overwhelming majority of people here are watching on the NBC family.

Biathlon was incredibly cool; I loved the side-by-side shots of the shooter and target. I believe the center target is about the size of a golf ball. Crazy all the misses, as well as the track conditions changing from rain, to freezing rain, to snow, back to rain, etc. The impact on the competition was a true X factor that made it ultimately very unpredictable.

X-country ending to the Nordic Combined was great.
The Kobayashi break, followed by the Usual Suspects (thank you) triggered the frantic final moments. Lodwick never responded, Spillane et al swallowed Kobayashi up like a hot dog on the 4th of July (thanks again), and then ran out of gas 5o yards from the finish. Lodwick climbed back into it for 4th... first four absolutely collapse at finish.
Awesome.

I also love the lugers... there are some real beer guts out there on some of these guys.

Replay here for anyone who missed it. Sick goal.

http://bit.ly/aWvMzf

At the end of the second period, she headed toward the goal one-on-one with a Chinese defenseman. Lamoureux dragged the puck behind her body, pulled it between her legs and cruised around the defenseman. Then, she got the goaltender to open up and put it home five-hole.

If you can't figure out the difference between a Sox/Bruins game that 99% of the people on the board can easily watch live and this where >95% are watching the NBC broadcasts I really don't know what to tell you. And if you can't be considerate enough to add spoiler tags for things I don't know where to begin with how ridiculous that is. It's a simple request.

Exactly. It's really pretty easy. If there are lots of people talking about something it's probably "live" on NBC/msnbc/usa/etc. If there aren't it probably isn't so to be safe you should probably spoiler tag it. Like Sprowl and SoxScout did above.

>95%... Give me a break. There's a bunch of Canadians posting here that watch a different feed, and anybody else, no matter where you live, can watch live Olympic coverage online.

You choose to watch the NBC broadcast. Instead of asking people that rather watch live sports to figure out what NBC's TV schedule looks like at any given time before they share their views on what's happening, it would be much, much easier if you guys just post in the tear-jerk tape-delay game thread, and not read the live one.

Makes sense on all levels; the live feed people can communicate freely, and the NBC crowd can chat about whatever it is Channel 7 is showing without being subjected to results.

You're being obtuse.

It makes it better to know that she's one of our tribe. Everyone around here is very sad because Jen Heil would have been Canada's first gold of the games. The Canadian TV announcers are occasionally mournful, in between angsting over whether Cypress will melt away and send up tulips before the Games are over.
