That was the first American gold. I'm surprised they aren't showing it although i'm sure they will show it at some point.

One thing about luge is there is just no way to recover once you bobble a little bit. Before you have a chance to correct yourself, you've already gone through 2 turns.

that Shaun White hit was insanely close to killing him. It was 2 weeks ago at the X Games. He came away with a scrape on his cheek. His face grazed the lip of the pipe and the the edge of his helmet clipped the ice and blew off. One inch (maybe less) closer and he'd be dead.

Overwhelming favorites in women's. Slight in men's. If they go goldless again at home, it will be sad.

And knock off the "I'm a superfan" stuff. It doesn't look good on you. At all.
The facetiousness got lost in the internet. Not sure why I really care that much about how the Olympics are discussed on the internet anyway, seeing as I'm actually there. Good news; I got a free ticket to go to Nordic Combined tomorrow. Bad news, I have to get up to Squamish and then ride a 2 hour bus to Whistler Olympic Park to see it.

Short track may be my favorite Olympic event.
Why someone hasn't found a way to package this sport for the other 206 weeks of the quadrennium and make a fortune is beyond me. It's just too fun to watch.
Here's a thing about short track - like many Olympic events, it isn't really suited to the "one big race" set up of the Olympics. You get a better feel for who the best are when the sample size gets bigger. Basically, short track is an athletic crapshoot - except that skill and fitness load your dice. A World Championship style meet, with points for four different distances is really a lot more meaningful than single distance medals.
Also - loved the Korean who was 2nd in the 5000m long track. You could tell early he was in the zone...moving with confidence, "On a good one". And Korea is naturally going to have pretty good long track skaters too...the guys who didn't make it in short track had to go somewhere.

You know he didn't deserve the silver.
But, the Koreans didn't deserve the medals either. Over competitiveness = failure.

Ohno may be more hated in these parts than Osama. This is the douchebag's SECOND time getting the silver due to a wipeout infront of him.
The Korean Suk-ho Lee (appropriate, eh?) getting the full brunt of Korean fans' anger after that stupid ass move at the last corner. If South Korea was a communist country he'll be sent to manual labor in Baek-do mountain until he's 80.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I won't say more as it would get much uglier.
Just unfortunate that he of all people would be the beneficiary of the Koreans' assheadedness.

For those with short memories, Ohno had a gold locked up in Salt Lake when a crash behind him wiped him out. Such is life in short track speedskating. The Koreans know that; what they obviously don't know is that winning gold is not their divine right.
Go Apollo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, this is great shit. Final lap, 2.5km's, and 3 Americans in the top 8 with a shot at medals. No American has ever medaled in Nordic combined.

Japan has *no* pairs team. They're competitive really only in singles skating, the women moreso than the men.
The other US pairs team will be up in an hour, and they're not as good as Denny/Barrett.

Johnmd20, we're using this thread because there's no need for a game thread for each day. One game thread is much better, I think.
