Good guess. Gretzky become a US citizen after he got married so maybe that is why he's out? (I thought I heard earlier that he had not been selected.) Gretzky's daughter was the queen of our Azalea Festival (honoring NATO) and attended a Norfolk Tides game. She was supposed to sing both the US and Canadian anthems and refused to sing the Canadian anthem.

You won't be. After Beijing, every future ceremony will pale in comparison. But Canada, especially, just isn't very good at this stuff to begin with. The opening in Calgary was abysmal. Their centerpiece was k.d. lang (whose voice I love when she's not singing that twangy country crap) skipping around the stage in a sheepskin jacket and 10-gallon hat.

That's probably a better call. This is likely it for Howe's chances to lead a torch into a Winter Olympics in Canada. Plus, he's from a little further west than Wayne if that matters. Can't go wrong with Mr. Hockey.

Ha, I hadn't noticed them until you pointed them out! ... They look like they are in pain. ... Are the "native Canadians" still doing their tradiational dances in the center? Or are these guys, half of whom look like they hold down full time corporate jobs during the day, and probably exploited their 1 percent bloodline to get on stage, taking a breather?

when they DO dance, it's like they're hearing different music from us--some old music from Up With People.

EDIT - Oh, those are the dancers everyone's talking about. Anyway, my comment about the piss still stands.
