I just want to publicly thank Traut and Rip for organising the Jimmy Fundraiser and Auction. I also would like to thank anyone else associated with it, all who donated items and cash and all who placed bids. We all know what cancer is and how it can devastate families. Thanks to the work of the Jimmy Fund, the Dana Farber Institute and those who support it, those of us who are fortunate enough to live in this part of the country have a better understanding of what cancer care, recovery and for some (hopefully more) survival can be. Even in those who may pass from the disease there are stories of hope and inspiration. We are quite blessed to have this institution in our "back yard" and as Red Sox fans, we are often exposed and updated to the wonderful work these folks are doing. It's truly a special place.
Thanks for overseing this process fellas!!!

Shit franchises will always be shit franchises until they decide not to be shit franchises.

I was able to witness a lot of Rip's and Traut's work from being cc:d on a lot of their action. As one who finds joy in finding fault in others, I can't say enough good things about their efforts.
Given the amount that we raised in such a down economy, the struggle in getting folk's fired up about this after doing it for so many years now and the lack of good sports news to piggyback on, I think in many ways that this was our most successful drive.
Now can we go back to making fun of Traut for not being able to knock up his wife?

You could, except somethings in life, aren't worth rushing. Baby making is one of those things. If all goes well, baby Traut will watch the Red Sox win the 2010 World Series.

I've always wanted to cc you some of my action, Nip. That I was able to do it in the name of charity heightened the pleasure, a feat I didn't imagine was possible.
The biggest thanks go out to everyone in the community who donated items and those who bid on them and/or made straight cash donations. CoRP and Dwight Evans were instrumental in raising a lot of dough, too. It looks like we're going to crack the $30,000 figure we set as a target (once all the auction items are paid for), and for that to happen -- given how tough things are financially for most of us -- is amazing. Additional thanks to our Jimmy Fund rep Amy, who's been great to work with. I'm pretty sure she didn't know what she was in for when our weird little corner of the internet was assigned to her, but she's been a terrific resource.
Also, I'd like to extend a special thank you to Tara for sharing her story and allowing us to put a face to the struggle against cancer. I'm sure her presence here had a direct hand in the amount of money we raised, so she should be very proud of herself. Keep kicking ass, Tara.
