If I were you I'd just queue up handbrake for a few days and leave it. Then get rid of the avi stuff. If you are looking at an apple tv too that would be even more beneficial.

Yeah that's a possibility I suppose. If I get AppleTV can I stream them from my PC directly? Otherwise I was thinking that I could stream them to my iPad via Plex and then just mirror my display on AppleTV. AppleTV will definitely be a future purchase, though, just not sure when.

As long as they are in iTunes you can stream them over AirPlay. I'm 99% sure this works on windows iTunes as well I do it using my MacBook pro all the time. Love not having to occupy my iPad to watch stuff on the apple tv.

4Peters - I use Flex player. You can just copy the avi files to your Ipad and play them via that app, no conversion need.

I've used Air Video in the past to stream/convert videos onto my iPad. It's pretty nice.

Quick cellular/wifi question: When both options are turned on, which takes precedence? IOW, if wifi is available, will data automatically be downloaded via wifi, and then cellular only kicks in when wifi is unavailable?

In every case I know of, WiFi takes precedence over Cellular/3G/4G data. That's been my experience with iOS and Android devices.

That is right, but if a neighbor or something conflicts you off of 802.11 then you might find yourself on 3G/4G when you don't expect it. There are icons in the top bar that you can pay attention to, and you'll drain battery a whole heck of a lot faster if you fall back to 3G/4G than on 802.11 (assuming you're using the network much).

Jailbreaking: The process of bypassing restrictions on iPhones and iPads to install other apps and tweaks not approved by Apple.

Decent primer here:

Thanks, where I was getting at was, what's the killer app or feature that makes you want to jailbreak your iPad.

Go to an AT&T store or VZW and they'll give you a new one for free.

It's been a while on this thread, but just picked up the new iPad the other day. Obsessed is a good word. Any further reviews or recommendations on cases since this thread was last updated?

I still love my Targus slim cover. It's secure, slim, and looks great.

iPad 4 came today. Since I also got the Smart Cover with it (and a protector for the screen), do I really need to buy a protector for the back of the iPad, to prevent scratches? I'd like to keep this in top shape, but would the Smart Cover suffice from preventing the back of the iPad from scratching up? If not, does anyone have recommendations on (ideally dry application) protectors for the back? Thanks!

Are you ever looking at selling it? I've had my ipad 2 for 2 years and beat the crap out of it and it has some scratches and a few dents on the back. I'd rather have the back scratched than spend years with it with a case on the back.

Just got an iPad 2. Trying to set it up and it won't let me set up my wi-fi. It recognizes the network, but when I click it the circle just keeps spinning. I tried turning the device and router on and off but to no avail. It won't even let me re-enter the password for the network. How do I fix it?

Tap the blue arrow next to your wifi' ssid (name) then tap forget network. You should then be able to re-enter the password. See if that fixes it. If not does any message pop up after it spins and does not connect? (is there no wifi icon in the top left?)

Does anyone have one where the cover also has a keyboard? Thoughts?

I had one with a keyboard and didn't like it at all. It was cumbersome when I wasn't using it at a desk, which was most of the time.

I gave it to one of my kids and went back to a Snugg leather case.

Anyone here interested in buying a new in box 16gb white latest model iPad (wifi only)? My brother in law got one for Christmas from his boss and has no use for it. I figured I would ask here before putting it on eBay. PM me.

Does anyone else have a problem with Safari crashing on the iPad when viewing Tumblr? The page will load about 80%, then hang, then the app closes. It's been happening with irritating regularity on my iPad 3 for the last month or so.

Wow, this thread hasn't been updated since February. I was thinking of making an iPad a Father's Day gift. He already has a Kindle; does he really need an iPad, too, or is that overkill?

As you can tell, I do not have a tablet of my own.

Is it a simple e-reader like the Paperwhite or a Kindle Fire? If he has a Fire an iPad would be redundant.

It is a Fire. That's what I was thinking -- thank you for confirming it. I mean, a new toy is fun and all, but ...
