EDIT: got scooped by two other threads so feel free to lock this one or move it. Thanks.

Right now there's no attribution anywhere, but this feed (via Twitter and newly supported by MSNBC) is reliable with its breaking news:

I'm guessing he saw the slouching HoF balloting last week and figures the road to Cooperstown starts with rehabilitating his image with the fans and writers. It's easier to say you're sorry than to get permission.

Ehn, if he really has admitted it, I don't think this will get him into Cooperstown. It should bump his votes because he won't alienate too much of the crowd already voting for him (maybe some of them will turn because they are part of the "no positive test" club and he'll get some other votes, but it will just confirm many of the voters' suspicions that are making them not vote for him anyway.

A flawed comparison could be made to Pete Rose where his admission to betting on baseball did nothing for his getting back into baseball. Certainly a different situation, but I don't see how fessing up gets the sanctimonious crowd who think the Hall is Ruth, Gehrig, May, etc to vote for him.
