I seldom listen to the radio during the day, but I had to run to the bank at lunch today and flipped on Zo and Gresh. In the 10 seconds or so before I sighed, rolled my eyes and changed back to XM I heard Gresh yelling loudly about what saps Sox fans are and how idiotic we were for believing Theo at the beginning of the season.

I heard the exact same thing, Haunted though he said we were saps because of the run prevention thing. I was only in my car for a bit and I immediately changed it to Dale and Holley.

Here's the thing, in about a month when the playoffs start what is 90% of every reporter going to say? "The team with the best pitching will win in the playoffs." They have been saying this every single year since the first World Series. That is exactly what the Sox were going to do except they called it run prevention, instead of pitching and defense. I don't understand Epstein is a moron and the fans are saps for thinking that this approach may work. The hallmarks of the last two Sox WS winners have been strong starting pitching, an awesome bullpen and guys that can catch the ball (and not give the other teams extra outs). Should we go back to the days where the Sox had a glorified softball team in the field and would get their asses beat 12-11 night in and night out.

Gresh certainly isn't the only media member to miss this point, but he's the loudest and dumbest.

Was that why? I caught (paraphrasing, of course) "If you believed Theo.... <mindless babble> ... Red Sox fans are all saps."

The next sound was me changing the station.

When I get out of my car in the morning, the very last thing I do before removing the key is changing the radio station. I listen to 98.5 during my morning and afternoon commute, but if I happen to get in the car at mid-day, I don't want even a second of GRESSSSSHHHHHH! or Zolak. The last straw was GRESHHHHHHHHHH! stumbling multiple times over the name Quinn Ojinnaka and then saying, "well, who cares right?" And it wasn't in one of those charming or amusing Harry Doyle manners either - it was legitimate "try, try, can't do it, who cares?" tone.

Clearly, GRESHHHHHHHHH! doesn't even care enough to learn the names of the players on the teams he is inexplicably paid to talk about for 20 hours a week.

98.5 is counter-programming WEEI; the WEEI mid-day show is reasonable and perhaps boring but not SHOUTY. TSH's mid-day, since canning Tanguay is borish, hyperbolic and VERY SHOUTY!

TSH would get the same or better rating with 4 hours of Ted Sarandis & Jimmy Myers during mid-days; it's not the hosts, it's the anti-WEEI crowd tuning in day after day. Instead of Ordway-without-the-charm and the backup QB who is clueless about everything other than football, TSH could be winning mid-days if they would just stop counter-programming EEI and let Adam Jones or Amendolara have a rotating crew of "experts" like (for example) Zolak, Dave McCarty, Andy Brickley and Donny Marshall.

I've heard bits and pieces of this show and I've read the complaints, but it seems like the biggest problem with the show isn't Gresh's volume, opinions or attitude. He's just terrible at radio.

Every time I listen I hear numerous patches of dead air. I hear Gresh reading long passages that aren't interesting in the least. I hear conversations that are clearly dead but the two hosts continue to slowly drag them out. This show isn't just obnoxious, loud and stupid - It's BORING.

GRESH sucks but...

I've actually been listening to "Gresh and Zo" today over "Dale and Holley." They have Bert Breer in studio and it's pretty good football talk. Compared to D&H, where all they're doing is shouting down callers who question the Patriots. HOW DARE YOU SUGGEST THEY'LL GO ANYTHING LESS THAN 10-6!

I have to agree somewhat with Phenom. I've always been a big Dale and Holley fan, but the past month or so have slowly been losing my interest in them, or at least Dale. I have always defended him but to me he has started to sound a lot more smug, not sure what it is. Any caller that has something negative to say he immediately gets defensive. Holley constantly tells him to let the guy speak or backs the caller. I have to admit I have been listening more to 98.5 even though I don't like Gresh or Zolak. The thing is they usually do have interesting guests on that are worth a listen.

Gary fucking Tanguay.

As much as I am cheering for 98.5 the combination of Tanguay and Gresh hosting the Patriots every week makes me realize they just want to employ the same methods as WEEI. Boo, I say.

Yeah I was stuck in a car for several hours on Sunday and although I can't stand Gresh he was so much better than Tanguay who was just insufferable. I have no idea how either one of them makes a living sharing their "opinions".

Gresh isn't going anywhere. The numbers for August were just released and Gresh and Zo beat Dale and Holley in the 25-54 age bracket by more than a couple of points.

They were sixth overall and the D&H were eighth.

I really can't believe that.

Not Gresh-specific, but they just let a Jets fan go on and on and on about how great Rex Ryan is, how much we suck, etc. for like, 5 minutes straight, complete with "J-E-T-S", etc.

I mean, really, come the fuck on. Trolling does not make for good radio.

They probably decided to use that time to eat a sandwich or six and hit the head, respectively. Or, since it's Gresh, finding new things to get overly homophobic about.

Well, I finally found this show entertaining. Flipped it on during an EEI commercial and I swear Gresh went on for 5 minutes about the Upton trade completely thinking it was BJ Upton they were trading for. Then he goes silent for a minute and oddly tries to bring up BJ Upton in Tampa saying he has a lot of the same issues as Justin. The whole discussion with these two on the subject was extremely entertaining. I think it was around 10:30-11.

This simulcast today is terrible. They're on with the Jets' talk radio station in New York and they're not even butting heads at all. They're sitting there ballwashing each other. It's really, really bad.

Man, these last few weeks have me losing some faith in 98.5. Each show, except maybe DA (which isn't that good to begin with) is lacking lately. Toucher and Rich much less so than everyone else, but Felger and Mazz has been terrible for a couple weeks now and Gresh and Zo, who usually skate on thin ice anyways, are far too tentative today. I actually like their show the most when it comes to Patriots talk, but my God, this simulcast is painful.

And they handled it really well...the exchange didn't seem awkward at all.

This show is definitely meathead radio, but GRESH and Zo embrace it. A much better listen than the vanilla ice cream on white bread that's Mutnansky and Merloni.

Had a lot of travel time today and what an abomination this show was today. Two knuckleheads that could barely carry on a show worth listening to with an obviously drunk Gresh and Zo calling in from the golf course demanding to be put on immediately only to say how drunk they were and how much the two hosts sucked.

I tried to listen twice and heard the same shit both times.

Same...and then I turned over to EEI and the Tom Caron/Merloni combo made me drowsy (I was driving, so I had to flip the dial).

Middays are really a wasteland these days. GRESH and Zo at least remind of some of the "dudes" I used to know in high school, so they're not bad for a few laughs.

But yeah, moving Dale out of EEI's midday was a massive mistake by Jason Wolfe. Wolfe should be embarrassed that his midday show is not just behind, but is getting crushed in the ratings by ANDY GREESSHHH!

Today bostonsportsmedia.com mentioned giving ESPN Boston Radio with Adam Jones a shot from 12 - 2 if you find the EEI and TSH offerings lacking. I'm going to try the show out and see how it goes, but that's not much of an option for someone without an internet connection handy.

I like the Buck and Dale's show on the weekends...I wonder if that would work in the middays for EEI?

Either way, they should really just move Dale back to 10-2 and pair him with somebody (maybe that guy has to be Merloni because of his contract). Shift Mutnansky back to the "super sub" role...something he's better suited for and it strengthens your "bench" in the process.

A move like that would be far from a panacea for EEI's problems, but at least they could regain the midday ratings and maybe get a bit of a larger crowd to open up "The Big Show." Because it seems like a lot of dials are stuck on 98.5 all day long, and that's not a good thing at all for EEI.

Problem is that I'm in the car and running a stream from ESPN Radio murders the battery. I liked Adam Jones on 98.5 when he was on and I'd much rather listen to him and another co-host from 10-2. Even today I liked Roche and McAdam better than Gresh & Zo. I wish they'd put Zo on Mondays & Fridays with other shows during football season, as well as the pre/post game. I just thing GRESH brings the worst out in him and they have nothing to offer from Feb-Sept. It's like listening to two frat boys talk about getting wasted all weekend.

Even if Wolfe's ego can handle it, I have to think Dale would have his balls in a vice too. After the rather unceremonious manner in which Dale's show was taken from him, I think insisting on a salary bump or a contract extension to go back to it would be an appropriate "beg me to come back" move.

Yeah, Zo and Sean McAdam the other day was pretty good. Talking about the Patriots offense and protecting Brady, Zo made an interesting point: when considering pass-run balance stats, you need to throw out draws from the shotgun and only count running plays from snaps under center.

Dave Goucher and McAdam are great today as well. IMO they should simply fire Gresh and have the mid day show be a ensemble cast based on availability and seasonal relevance. Goucher, McAdam, Haggerty, Zolack, Flynn, Trupe, Gasper etc. Have the fill in guys (Bertrand, Hardy, Johnston, Keefe, Tanguay) spot host as needed and don't look back.

And simply substitute Flynn on the pre and post game shows. I prefer an actual NFL player over a moron who wishes he was one.
