Comcast Sports Net Makes Major Changes

According to bostonsportsmedia.com:
"Comcast SportsNet announced this morning the official hirings of Sean McAdam, Tom Curran, Art Martone, Sherrod Blakely and Joe Haggerty as they relaunch their website and partner on-air with NECN to provide broadcast and internet coverage of Boston sports.
NECN sports personalities Mike Giardi and Chris Collins will now also join the Comcast SportsNet news team, alongside Michael Felger and Gary Tanguay, and recent additions Kevin Walsh, Carolyn Manno, Jessica Moran and Jackie Peper.
CSN will debut a new 30-minute program to air three times a night; SportsNet Central. The new show will start on December 3rd, at 6:00pm and will air each night at 6:00 p.m., 10:30 p.m. and 1:00 a.m." - http://www.bostonspo...snet-relaunches
To recap, CSN's website now consists of Michael Felger and Tom E. Curran covering the Patriots, Sean McAdam covering the Red Sox, Sherrod Blakely covering the Celtics (Blakely has worked as an NBA report in Detroit according to Bruce Allen), and Joe Haggerty covering the Bruins. Art Martone will serve as the primary editor.
Also, since CSN now has all of these reporters under contract, it seems like they will be given first priority when it comes to appearances on television, on top of the guys who they already have under contract, such as Lou Merloni, Michael Holley, Donnie Marshall, and Christian Fauria.
My point is, it looks like CSN may stop reaching out and bringing in guys for one appearance here and there. They have enough talent under contract to them to fill their programming, and people now report to them, which definitely helps their legitimacy.
It was also a smart move to bring in Giardi and Chris Collins to help host the shows, since with their radio duties, both Tanguay and Felger are taking more time off.
What's funny is, how many people now work for so many conflicting outlets. I always find it funny when Tanguay and Holley are co-hosting "Sports Tonight," considering they go head-to-head in the midday, or when Felger is with Merloni, as Merloni is frequently on "The Big Show."
It really seems like a lot of the old media barriers that used to exist in this market are now gone, and people are just taking the best work they can get.

I'm not saying I like Collins nor do I like Tanguay. Although I think Tanguay is far more bearable on TV than he is on radio. On radio, his lack of knowledge is really palpable, whereas on TV, it's easier to hide.
But I do like Mike Giardi, and it's nice that he's getting a pretty big opportunity here.

Yes, McAdam is at CSN full-time. Tom E. Curran, Joe Haggerty, and all of the others will be working for CSN full-time too.
I think this is a great string of hires for them. Their network now has a legitimate chance to break news, and with 4 full-time reporters (I imagine Collins and Girardi would handle more of the "breaking news," with Tanguay and Felger committed to radio during the week), they could really become a destination place.
They could become the place to be for live airings of press conferences, and other things of that nature.

I was high on the new WEEI.com, but the best thing about that site now is the This Just In RSS feed. Alex Speier is really good, but I don't hunt down his stuff every day.
Aside from switching to the Sports Hub, I think my biggest change is when I want to check in for a 2 minute "Boston sports briefing" I go to ESPNBoston.com now instead of Boston.com/sports. I think ESPNB has been excellent for that sort of thing.
For the Pats I follow Reiss, for the Sox I follow McAdam. For the B's and C's I rather just follow their SoSH subforums.
Reiss leaving the Globe has cut my visits to that website down by like 90%.

Yeah...Chris Collins might be the worst studio anchor I've ever heard. He's a really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really poor man's Stuart Scott circa 1999 (or whenever Scott's act was semi-fresh).
And the other people seem like the most generic hosts out there. Not impressed at all.
However, I continue to enjoy "Sports Tonight" and "Sports Sunday." I also love the upgrades they've made to CSNNE.com.

Seems like Comcast is really trying to take advantage of the dying newspaper industry to create...? There's been talk that the NBC purchase could lead to them trying to take on ESPN.

I'd love to see it happen but don't think it will. The only reason why Dickerson isn't hosting is because he's actually at Fort Myers with McAdam and Merloni. And they're doing segments including player interviews down there.tough to find a CSNNE thread in here, but anyone watching The Baseball Show this week? Neumy and Felger on tonight...think Neumy takes over for Dickerson during the baseball season?

my husband and i were watching this last night and thought it was outrageous even for Felger. Is this guy serious? What's even worse is Meloni backing him up. How could you have watched Pacioretti go down that night and think he was over playing his injury.

Gotta say I agree with Felger. Look at Savard, Crosby, Bergeron, etc. for a concussion that keeps people out for much longer periods of time.http://www.csnne.com...zRw8NTu3lnZoL7z

Maybe this might have something to do with it: http://ca.sports.yah...n?urn=nhl-wp420
Oh, and I completely agree with Felger.

You're also conveniently ignoring the C4 vertebrae fracture. It's not like Pacioretty's playing tomorrow. He still has a broken neck and isn't even going to be practicing in hockey gear for another month at least.

Of course - but that doesn't mean he wasn't concussed. That just means he's pretty lucky. I mean, did anybody think when Crosby went down that he wouldn't be playing on March 18?I'm not ignoring it. That is a serious injury. But, he seems to be doing much better after his injury than Savard, etc. were.
I should really watch the Felger piece. I'm not because I don't want to throw my computer out the window because I suspect he'll come up with "ooh, what a faker!" which seems to be his MO about anything Habs-related. But if that's his POV/schtick he is really playing the fool.

some people recover more quickly, or don't have the lasting symptoms- my point is felger is saying the guy flopped- that he faked it- that's a "bunch of bull" as he likes to say. the guy was lucky he didn't dislocate his skull.I'm not ignoring it. That is a serious injury. But, he seems to be doing much better after his injury than Savard, etc. were.

If that's true then he really is an idiot, and an idiot who knows nothing about what he has claimed is his favorite sport to boot (certainly he's been up front about it being the one Boston team he really roots for).some people recover more quickly, or don't have the lasting symptoms- my point is felger is saying the guy flopped- that he faked it- that's a "bunch of bull" as he likes to say. the guy was lucky he didn't dislocate his skull.
In short, Pacioretty was Montreal's best forward when he went down. There is no way he or the team would have him fake an injury that would put him out of a shift, much less 3 games and counting, to "get" Zdeno Chara or the Bruins.

Concussions are notoriously hard to grade and people respond differently to every concussion.Maybe this might have something to do with it: http://ca.sports.yah...n?urn=nhl-wp42
Oh, and I completely agree with Felger.
He broke his neck; according to Felger he may return in 3 to 5 WEEKS but he flopped. You agree with Felger?, really?

So you believe someone can break their neck, their C4 vertebrae no less, an injury that usually takes many many months to recover from, and come back and play hockey in 3 to 5 WEEKS and he didn't flop?He broke his neck; according to Felger he may return in 3 to 5 WEEKS but he flopped. You agree with Felger?, really?
I don't think he flopped during the actual play, but I don't think he was nearly as injured as we were led to believe either. Certainly not enough to have stupid Habs fans calling 911.

Dear God, Taylor Twelman is terrible on Sports Tonight. Why do I care what some soccer dude has to say about the Red Sox? Never thought I'd be wishing for Tanguay instead.
you're going to have to get used to it...he's retired from MLS and this is his 2nd career...unless he wants to coach soccer...I hope he improves over time

Is it me or do other Comcast people have the same problem I do? I live in New Haven County and all of a sudden Comcast Sports Net seems to have disappeared from my channel options. I turned to channel 85 and instead of CSN, I get a test pattern. I understand the need to black out Celtics games, but why can't I see CSN at other times. I called a rep who did not seem to know anything. I'm really mad because I was just starting to like Felger and Mazz and the Dan Patrick show. Any other Comcast people have this problem? No more Mohegan Sports Tonight...being rebranded as Unos Sports Tonight...
