Gotta say, I'm happy for all the former Sox.

Wow.

You ready for all the big talkin' Dodger fans down in SoCal pat? The Sox have to win because my head will explode if I have to hear Dodgers and Angels fans talking trash.

Gut punch loss for the Cards. Tough break boys, make way for the varsity.

The rest of the Cards should take turns hitting liners at Holliday's balls after that.

Ryan Franklin looked decidedly uncomfortable for all of that.

Holiday has to catch that ball, but Loney hit it pretty good. You wonder if he lost it somehow in the crowd, flat light or something.

Don't worry, they'll probably show up to work around noon and leave by 2 to avoid traffic.

I'm ready. Sox Dodgers WS would be a dream. Angels Dodgers would be a nightmare.

What a terrible way to lose that game. Stick a fork in 'em.

I'm not sure I'm ready to count the Cards out. (But then again, they have Lugo...)

Carpenter & Wainwright getting knocked out of the playoffs this early could really open things up in the NL.

What a terrific spot by TBS on Bob Gibson. You never see him interviewed, and the guy is simply one of the best pitchers of all time.

Unless Orlando Hudson is injured having a difficult time understanding Torre's decision to start Belliard. Im not even certain I like Belliard at the plate more, but defensively it's a landslide. Hudson being a free agent next year must be real happy with the manager's decision, one that seems like it is nothing more than Joe going with the gut feeling.

Cards shit show. Dodgers/Phils should be entertaining- Manny v. Pedro would be delicious.

Agree that it doesnt look so hot for Saint Louis, ifmanis, but Vincente Padilla? WTF.

The postseason really is a crapshoot. A team with Beckett & Lester is down 0-2, and a team with Carpenter & Wainwright is six innings away from being swept.

Just another mediocre AL guy who is dominating NL lineups. Not too surprising when you think about it.

Smoltz fans the side in the 6th.

It's now or never for the Cards with Padilla in the sixth and the heart of the order up

After an infield single (easily could have been an error) to the first hitter he faced, Smoltz has struck out 5 in a row.

What happens when an offense is pressing?

A Vincente Padilla goes 6 innings scattering 3 hits. Hate to discount a nice post season start, but I think this is more reflective of pressing batsmen than some fabulously spun gem.

A struggling offense in the postseason needs an ice breaker. And I really am hoping our little firecracker Pedey rings one off the wall in the first inning and they never allow Kaz to get settled in.

I can't believe the Cards are going this quietly. They were my pick to win the NL pennant. Carpenter and Wainwright and Pujols and Holliday sounded pretty potent in the rotation and at the plate.

But then again, they should've had Game 2. And with a short series, things happen quickly.

St. Louis was the one team in the NL that I thought had the best chance of beating New York/Anaheim/Boston in the World Series. Some will say the Phillies do too but Hammels has been too inconsistent this season and they've got the Lidge situation.

Torre wanted no part of Pujols. He was smart. They somehow correctly judged that Holliday was not a real threat.

The fans in St. L. were very classy in their support of Holliday, but once he dropped that ball, it was OVAH.
