According to reports, she hit back pretty well.
Tigers should have offered her the DH position for this game.

They probably wish the river was still flammable.
Why would they wish that the Cayuhoga River in Cleveland was still on fire? What did the Indians do to deserve that?

He's gonna be in the studio for the Division Series.

Is he going to read stiffly off a teleprompter ... reading words he can hardly pronounce? Maybe he'll put his add or bipolar disorder or whatever on display while he's at it?

There is a difference between a perfectly played game and a thoroughly entertaining one to watch. Part of the excitement in watching tonight's game was that both teams were flawed and made screwups. It added to the dramatic tension along the way.

Really, cut off the booze in the Twinkie clubhouse already.

That was when they had Morneau. Now, they are nothing. No offense (save Mauer), no pitching and an exhausted bullpen.
Fuck football. People wonder why I fucking hate the idiotic sport. If it wasn't for football, this game would have been played yesterday! That would have, y'know, made sense.

Twice, possibly. I just started a thread in the Yankee section, but I think we're looking at this:
Gm 1 Blackburn @ Sabathia Wed Oct. 7 6:07 PM TBS
Gm 2 Pavano @ Burnett Fri Oct. 9 6:07 PM TBS
Gm 3 Pettitte @ Baker Sun Oct. 11 TBD TBS
Gm 4* Sabathia @ Blackburn Mon Oct. 12 TBD TBS
Gm 5* Pavano @ Burnett Wed Oct. 14 TBD

Insanity. And where's Duensing in the rotation?
I know Pavano pitched decently there this year while with Cleveland, but that plan looks pre-set for utter failure.

Gardenhire passed him over on full rest for Sunday in favor of Pavano on three days rest, so I don't see how it makes sense to slot him in, with all the off days. The games 2-5 starters will all be on full rest, who does Duensing bump?

This seems to be a recurring theme. It's like everyone has forgotten how the Tigers put themselves in this position in the first place.

Brian Duensing is starting game one. Carl Pavano will not see the mound unless it's in relief. Duensing-Blackburn-Baker is the rotation.

The 2007 Yankees, you know the team that was getting embarrassed by Kenny Rogers and had A-Fraud batting 8th was pretty bad.

Tonight's announcers were saying Duensing might start tomorrow.
I dunno. You make some good points.

I guess it's a matchup thing, but that doesn't make sense in conjunction with the decisions Gardenhire made this past weekend. I like that even more, Pavano actually scares me a little.

I'll echo this. If you are a baseball fan, this is all you can ask from a playoff game. It had it all. And before we dissect this like we do all sporting events, I can never honestly comfortably watch the losers walk off the field. I was happy for the Twins but those shots of the Tigers sitting in stunned silence after playing a full 163 game schedule was gut wrenching. I don't care if they fucking choked like Mama Cass, it still sucks.
What a great fucking sport. The greatest sport.

My way makes more sense to me, but they did say Blackburn threw on the side today, so I guess they're bumping Pavano.

2005 Red Sox - with the results to prove it. By the time that regular season ended they were as bad or worse than the Twinkies are now.

It was contingent on Duensing not having to pitch in relief tonight. Now that he doesn't, Carl Pavano is no longer necessary a starter. Blackburn starts game 2 on regular rest, and then Baker on four days rest in game three.

Maybe, I guess it would be between him and Duensing again, but I don't think there's any possible way it gets that far.

Very nicely put. I have had zero rooting interest in any of the last 3 years' Game 163's, but they have been absolutely unforgettable theater. To me at least, these games feel more tense than a Game 7.
And I loved Leyland's line from earlier this season, about this not being a year to fail to run out ground balls, etc. It really sucks to see them blow it the way they did.

Considering he'll probably have a lead before he takes the mound....the only thing bringing him down will be gravity.
Entertaining game though.

How about 0.26 BAC Miguel not knowing you have to run on any ground ball with the bases loaded. He looked at the ball and hesitated as if he didn't have to run. Outstanding hitter, blockhead mind. In fact, he also swung at a lot of crap after his double and homer.

That other member was right, I watched. Not only was the 2003 World Series pretty enjoyable but the unlikely happened. I know the 2003 Marlins were better than the 2009 Twins but they weren't better than the 2003 Yankees. In baseball, even the best teams can shit the bed for three or four games against a weaker opponent.
