Since being put back in the leadoff spot for good on July 20, his slash numbers are .310/.368/.440, and his walk rate for that stretch is up over 8 percent. Everything's moving in the right direction for him right now.

Buchholz left for the end of the regular season party after the 2nd inning. He just forgot to take his body with him. What a putz!

Pretty fucking sad to have 3/4 of your playoff rotation as a mystery.

Tek in for Victor.
Ramirez in.
Missed the Infielder switch.

I'm in complete agreement with you here. I can't understand what Buchholz's problem is. Is it just a simple matter of his being a head case?

They're just watching "Good Will Hunting" on TBS on picture-in-picture

Nobody is a sure thing....however, I would trust both Lester and Beckett in the playoffs, and you pretty much know Dice will give you 5-6 innings 2-3 runs like he always does. However, I don't trust Clay at all, he's a severe headcase, has #1 starter stuff but not mentally tough.

Frankly, this stuff strikes me as foolish, and a case of trying to fit an old narrative onto every piece of batter success that comes along: what is there in Buchholz's performance today that makes you think he's a head case as opposed to simply having poor command of the fastball?
If he's a headcase, why is he losing command in the 3rd inning of a meaningless game rather than in the games he pitched that actually counted? Maybe Buchholz, like Papelbon, needs high-stakes situations to focus his best -- if that's a headcase symptom, we can live with it.
Buchholz got knocked around?
Was there anything obvious about why?
The poor 3rd inning coincided with losing command of the slider, which in prior innings he was throwing whenever he needed a strike. He missed the zone with the last seven sliders he threw (loss of control) and then grooved two fastballs with men on base (loss of command).

We're back on this again? Oy vey.
Anyone remember Derek Lowe in 2004?
1 IP 6 ER, 5 IP 4 ER, 2.1 IP 5 ER, 2 IP 1 ER for a total -0.94 WPA and a 13.94 ERA in his last four starts.
I agree, Clay's last two starts inspire little confidence, but this head case bullshit has to stop. He's a young pitcher with a lot of talent who is still adjusting to being a major league pitcher and who may be hitting a wall because of his innings increase from last year to this year.
Please stop with the pseudo-science psycho-babble.
