There's a chill in the air up north, and many MLB players' bags are already packed for the trip home. Fans all across the country and yes, the entirety of Canada (Toronto's market) will stare the off-season in the face after today.

But not us. We are blessed. There is a game today and another... sometime soon.

Well, not absolutely all of Canada... rolleyes.gif

More momentum, please!

It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone.

Go ahead, read it again.

It's raining here and somewhat chilly and raw, but there's more baseball to come. How nice.

Heading in to Fenway with my daughter and her friend, who has not yet been to a Red Sox game. I don't even care that it'll be the Paw Sox out there. Win please!

I guess you can dream. But I am resigned that most of the playoffs will include dealing with horrible commentators. Its just a sad fact of baseball.

It's weird how every time I read that the room gets dusty and I get something in my eye.

Lineup per WEEI:
Ellsbury CF,
Pedroia 2B,
Martinez C,
Youkilis 3B,
Ortiz DH,
Bay LF,
Kotchman 1B,
Drew RF,
Buchholz

Lowell still thumbs down. Otherwise pretty close to the next stage.

Why bother with an SS anyway? At least this way none of them will get hurt.

Plus, Youks alone at 3B is an improvement over the early-season Lugo/Lowell combination. Why not give him a little more of a challenge?

You are the Minesota Twins and it's the last day of the regular season and a "must win" game to ensure the post season. Your starting pitcher is Carl Pavano. (Fil in the blanks)

One pitch, no runs.

Better start.

Edit - Oh for fuck's sake. Three pitches is not that much better.

You know, much like David Ortiz, I find myself a little surprised at how nice of a season Ellsbury has had.

.301/.355/.415

That's more than I was hoping for when March rolled around. Though the .355 isn't as impressive when you consider how much of it is batting average, but still, I'm thrilled with how well he's played this season.

Buchholz's slider keeps getting faster and less hittable: it's now one of the hardest sliders in the league. He can pound the zone with it (which he can't always do with his fastball), and batters have yet to make him pay for it.

He's come a long way since his mid-season slump after the wrist injury last year. His old-man skills will come along in time too -- he's already one of the team's best hitters at making contact: he has closed up some of the holes in his plate coverage.
