If Portland ends up winning this thing you would have to say they had pretty much a perfect season.

1. Helped the parent club (Papelbon, Delcarmen)
2. Developed and advanced prospects (Pedroia, Meredith, etc)
3. Developed top prospects for a full year (Lester, Hanley, D/M/M)
4. Furthered the development of advancing players (Hansen, Anibal, EMart)

I hope you all got up to see a game, or will in the future because they run a great operation up there.

Awesome season.

I agree wholeheartedly!I have had an opportunity to see several games this year on trips and also have dealt with the teams front office in setting up interviews. The front office, coaches and players have all been great to my requests.
Lets hope Wade Miller can get off to a good start tonight. If he can go three scoreless innings, I think Anibal can give two more and that will enable the bullpen take over and I have confidence in them. Looking for a real close win tonight, with Scott Youngbauer driving in the winning run to exact some revenge on Akron.

I'm not sure what the plan is with Miller, but I'll assume that if he does well tonight, he'll be back in Boston tomorrow since there's not much time left in the season.

T1- Portland does not score in the top of the first leaving one runner on.( Chris Durbin an infield hit)

B1- Wade Miller pitches a perfect bottom of the first.( 1 K)

T2-In the top of the second the Sea Dogs get two infield hits but fail to score.

B2-In the bottom of the second Miller allowed 1 hit but no runs. He had 1K.

T3- No runs for Portland in the third but they did get another hit.

B3-Miller pitches a hitless third with 1 K. One runner reached on an error but was thrown out attempting to steal.

T4-In the top of the fourth, Portland does not score and it is still 0-0 going to the bottom of the fourth.

B4-In the bottom of the fourth, Miller pitches another perfect inning recording his fourth strikeout

T5- Portland does not score in the top of the fifth. Halfway thru the game we are still scoreless. Miller is on a 70 pitch count tonight. It is possible he may be able to pitch one more inning after this one.

B5- Wade Miller pitched a scoreless fifth inning. HE gave up 2 walks and also struck out 2. He is in the mid 60's in pitches so it looks like that will be all for Miller. He pitched extremely well tonight. He allowed only 1 hit and struck out 6.

T6- The Sea Dogs go 1-2-3 for the first time in the game, still 0-0. Anibal Sanchez is in to pitch in the bottom of the sixth.

B6- Anibal Sanchez pitched a perfect bottom of the sixth striking out 1.

T7- Portland fails to score and leaves two runners on

B7- Sanchez allowed a triple with two out and a two runners on. Akron now leads 2-0 going to the eighth. Sanchez only gave up 1 hit but walked 1 as well. The other runner reached base on a fielder's choice after Hanley Ramirez tried to get a double play on a grond ball to short with the runner on first going on the pitch. As a result both runners were safe. Would have made the difference in that inning.

T8- Portland strands two more runners in the top of the eighth, 2-0 Akron. Craig Hansen coming in to pitch the bottom of he eighth.

B8- Hansen gave up a walk but o runs. He now has held the opposition scoreless in all 11 appearances at AA. Last chance here for the Sea Dogs in the ninth.

T9- Portland goes 1-2-3 in the ninth and lose the game 2-0. They now trail in the series 2 games to 1. Akron had only two hits in the game. Portland had numerous men on base but failed to get the hit with runners in scoring position.

Encouraging news about Miller. I too wonder if he'll join the big club now. There's nowhere else he can pitch at this point. There isn't a role for him now, but you never know, a rainout could lead to a need for a spot start, or he could pitch long relief or extra innings or something.

All year he's struggled in his first inning of work, but at least tonight he got through the first unscathed.

5 scoreless IP with 6 Ks is much better than he had been doing.

Game Stories:

Seadog Perspective

It was a pitching duel with few hits and few opportunities. Somebody needed to come up with a big hit or get lucky, or both.

Jon Van Every sent a bloop down the left-field line with two outs in the seventh inning. It dropped for a two-run double as the Akron Aeros edged the Portland Sea Dogs 2-0 before 5,868 at Canal Park.

[...]

The pivotal play in the seventh came after Anibal Sanchez walked Ryan Mulhern with one out.

With Mulhern running, Pat Osborn grounded to shortstop Hanley Ramirez, who tried to throw out Mulhern at second. But Mulhern was called safe, and slid so hard into second baseman Scott Youngbauer, there was no chance to get Osborn at first.

A grounder by Shaun Larkin erased Osborn, and Akron had runners on first and third with two outs.

Claus stuck with the right-handed Sanchez against the left-handed Van Every because Sanchez is a strikeout pitcher and Van Every has a habit of swinging and missing. But he made contact Friday. [...]

Left fielder Chris Durbin charged toward the line and dove for it.

"I think it landed right on the chalk," Durbin said. "I was fully extended. Just tough luck. I probably missed it by half an inch."

Miller's start wasted

The question now is what will the Red Sox do with Miller. When he is ready to pitch again, there will be no more minor league games in which to rehab. He said he will return to Boston today and find out his next move.
