Also, that was a cockleeching scunner of a toss by Lowrie.
You and I both know that playoff Josh is a totally different animal. He'll be pumped the fuck up, not tuning up in a meaningless game. His velocity is fine, that's the important thing. It's hard to be sharp after not pitching for 10 days and, for a guy like Beckett, pitching in a game that doesn't matter. Who knows how much the V-Mart thing makes a difference too.

This is very true. Also true: watching Beckett pitch like camel-santorum in a even meaningless game makes me want to spay nuns.

Kinda both.

There's been a few weak hits mixed in, but there's also been plenty of line drives.

He certainly is: this has to be the ugliest location chart I've seen in a long, long time -- everything is middle-middle; nothing on the outer edges (although he seemed to get sharper at the knee-level pitches later in the second inning). The curve is very slurvy, and for Beckett that's not a good thing.

Heidi (looking very nice) informs us (as all serious reporters should) that Tazawa is making the trip to LAAA to 'get a feel for the postseason'... really?

Aye, now let me ask you this:
At 8:25 PM on Friday, which memory will you be thinking about? Beckett striking out the side in the first inning of Game 1 of the 2007 WS -or- this start tonight?

The real question is which memory will we be thinking about at 10:25PM on Friday.

Beckett sees Horseface's 3 and 4 through 2, and raises 4 and 6 through 2, and tosses in 2 walks to Horseface's 1. Horseface doesn't stand a very good chance in this hand.

Hate to say it, but Beckett doesn't seem to provide that much of an edge over Burnett as of right now. Obviously that could mean jack shit, but Beckett has been uninspiring even before tonight.
