3 flyball outs.

Neither were hit particularly hard. Lester doesn't look pained either...so I guess thats good news.

I hope so. I've had the shittiest week ever (family crisis) and the Sox shitty play made it shittier. I need a win tonight. Desperately.

Ellsbury would become the first Red Sox player to lead the AL in stolen bases in back to back years since Billy Werber in '34-35.

Well.. he hasn't given up a hit yet. But it's been 5 straight warning track shots. I don't know if this is a good or a bad thing.

5 FOs. At least 3 (the ones I saw), to the warning track.

Would anyone be interested in a mike in the dugout to litsten to what tito and company were saying? Or do you think it would just be retarded drivel?

I don't either. Lester not sharp early on, but we are lucky he gets a practice start before going into the playoffs. Those last 2 were homers in the toilet.

I think it would be erudite drivel, but probably too salty for family consumption. Tito gives some pretty good dugout interviews, but you can tell that he's watching his tongue (except when Ortiz clowns behind him and Tito threatens to kick his ass).

In a meaningful game, an out is always better than a hit. But when youre just practicing, Id rather him not get hit hard, even at the expense of a few groundball singles. Hopefully he settles in after getting his feet under him.

Tito with all that gum in his mouth would be incomrehendable.

Lester is getting the outs... but the pitches look a little lifeless to me. Hopefully he's just not completely warmed up (we've seen that before).

Lester is throwing all his pitches, which strikes me as testing his leg, rather than going all out, since often a pitcher will gradually introduce additional pitches as he moves through the game. His four seam has hit 96. Control may not be as good as we would like, but I think there are more good signs than bad.

At 94-95, his velocity looks OK, but he's getting a lot of pitches up in the zone and his fastballs seem to have unpredictable movement (ie, all over the chart).

He's throwing a lot of changeups too.

Nick Cafardo just suggested that Gathright should make the play-off roster because he could be used to pinch run for Jason Varitek.

I've got nothing against Gathright making it on the bench, but this is just yet another egregious example of Nick Cafardo's failure to even hold up the pretense of being a journalist.

Jason Varitek? Reaching base? In the play-offs?

Edit: He also isn't ruling out the Twins, simply beacuse "they have a lot of heart."

Why waste a space with Gathright? We have Buchholz - a two for oner! laugh.gif

Nuts. I had been hoping I was reading the pitching chart wrongly on account of small sample size.

In other news, does anyone else think that there's something very politically incorrect about the first person of Native American extraction in major league baseball leading the American League in steals?

No. Why? I think he's only the first Navajo, there have been other Native American ball players.

As a reminder, Joba Chamberlain is considered Native America(Winnebago).
